i should mention i used the 50/135 lens

this first orchid is at 1600, no sun, no flash, no PP

the same orchid at ISO 499, no sun, no flash, no PP

center of a succulent at 1600, sun behind, no flash, no PP

i did crop this one to 8x10 and did minimum PP, ISO 400

Thanks for posting. I'm not commenting on your ability as a photographer, rather the camera. The ISO 400's don't excite me, I expect as much. Number three at ISO 1600 is beyond what I thought possible. Would you please share some detail about that shot with us? Specifically the lighting conditions, lens, histogram, ... My exif viewer plugin in firefox crashes on that one.

Hi Karen,
some beautiful flowers and shots, looks like you enjoy your new K20D.

Images are great and clean, certainly is positive that this camerawill probably be my next purchase!

Thank you for sharing.

Really beautiful colors. I can't believe the weather you have.

One question: Maybe I missed them, but I could not find any images at low ISO. Can you provide some samples and your impression when compared with those taken with K10D?

Just trying to figure out two things:

1. What is the best the new body can do? (low ISO in great light with a prime lens)

2. If the 14.6 MP resolution reaches the resolving ability of many lenses (or not)

Thanks much.

all were shot in raw mode, converted to jpg in CS2, the first three had no PP other than to size them for pbase.

the flower was facing what i would call sort of north, it was just before 10 a.m., sun out for short bursts but mostly total overcast which is why most of the shots appear 'flat' not to exciting. if the plant was at 6 o'clock the sun was probably at about 10 o'clock behind it, other plants around blocking some of the brief sun.

below is the full exif from the pbase site on the one you asked about.

Date/Time 23-Feb-2008 09:48:34

I share your curiosity as well. A great shot. It is almost like a macro at F16? I can see some noise at top center. Maybe the full size can reveal a bit more

oh, we're getting some lovely rain again, since we get all our rain in 3 to 4 months and then almost nothing the rest of the year we love the rain.

due to the overcast, rainy conditions i have shot many since getting the camera thursday at ISO 400 to boost the speed as we are also having winds, today gusts up to 65mph!

these were taken at iso 200

i have others at ISO 200 but just didn't put them up. obviously at ISO 100 and 200 they are beautiful.

perhaps tomorrow i'll look for slower ISO to share.

I enjoyed all your photos. They image quality were all very good. Even at high iso. I am impressed with the image quality and will really like for my pre-orderd K20D to arrive.

I see you are really giving the DA*50-135 a real workout. I am guessing it works really well if not slightly better than it did on the K10D.

Thanks for the posts it looks like you had a fun time at the famers market.

Dave

Thanks Karen. It's difficult for me to believe an ISO 1600 worked so well. I can't quite wrap my head around detail flower shots such as yours at 1600.

I don't think my K100d would be so clean at the same size and speed. Did you apply any noise reduction?

Thanks in advance.

thanks, dave. i'm waiting on you to get your K20 also so i can see
some other photos!
THis coming week will be my last week before retiring. Just last month I finally was able to get boardband internet. So high on my list of retiremnt chores is to get a online gallery going. Posting some K20D photos will be another reason to get an online gallery going.

They do look very nice indeed.

Seems pentax has pulled off a good one.

That said i suspect, your ability to handle it is equally improtant and that is one thing you for sure are good at.

Thanks for sharing... Gonna be hard not to get one.

thanks for the nice comments, thomas. glad you liked them.

i for certain didn't think i'd be the first on the list to get it, just happened that way, and yes, i'm having a lot of fun with it and everytime i download i'm impressed even more. pentax did a great job with this one.

so, when do you order? grin.

Sigh. These really look good Karen. I'm sighing because there will be no k20d in my budget this year. I'll have to wait until the next model comes out and the k20d drops dramatically in price. But that is ok I guess, I still haven't really worked the k10d to it's full potential. The limiting factor in my photography is not the k10d, it is me. I will certainly enjoy seeing you work with the k20d. I am very happy that you are happy with it. The iso 1600 shots are amazing. I am forced to shoot with iso 1600 (and would like more) when I shoot my son's performances. I've actually been surprised at what I can eek out of the k10d with correct exposure and iso 1600, but nowhere close to what you've shown here.
