I would like to buy my tripod for my canon Digital Rebel XT. Can you provide some links of product so I can review and but one.

Thank you,

Best: price, size, weight, quality, material? Best for what: indoor portraits, backpacking, P&S camera, large format film, landscapes, sports with 400mm 2.8 lens, and on and on and on.

Even if you narrow it down, you'll still have to make your own decision. I'm not being sarcastic, just objective and honest.

Fred speaks the truth.

There is no one 'best'. Decide what you want (mostly) to do with it. Being able to throw it in your luggage w/ a 200mm lens is different from stalking wildlife w/ a 500mm lens which is different from hauling it up a mountain.

You can easily spend more on the tripod than you did on the camera.

The BEST tripod is sturdy, light weight, and cheap.

Unfortunately, you can achieve any two of those attributes in a single tripod, but not all three.
You have to decide which of the three is least important to you.

I don't remember what I paid for my Gitzo in 198? but I clearly recall that it was more than the new Nikon SLR that I was putting on it.

But I still have, and heavily use, that Gitzo. It looks pretty weatherbeaten but works perfectly. So for me, Gitzo is the best tripod.

There was a nother name brand I do not remember. It starts with a M. I would like to spend around $200-$300 dollars. A combination of outdoor and indoor photography.

I have two Manfrotto 3021BPRO pods, and a 055xprob, which is the updated version of the same pod. I use them for wildlife, macro, landscape, and travel. There are heavier pods, possibly sturdier pods, cheaper pods, and lighter pods. I have a studio pod that weighs easily twice as much. I will not take it out of the studio. I have a lighter pod that I am giving to my niece, it is not as sturdy. There are lighter pods that cost 4 times as much. I find this unit covers all the bases I need covered at a reasonable price, with a 488 rc2 quick release ballhead for under $300 from B&H photo, one of the most reputable dealers out there. I recommend it highly. BUT remember that is just my opinion, and opinions are like rectums, everyone has one.

Please speak slowly and distinctly. I have a wife, and a computer. I dont need any more confusion in my life.

I wanted to be a nude photographer, but when I went outside naked everyone pointed and laughed, so I gave it up.

For a rookie with tripods after reading through the above posts I am confused. I would like to start out with a nice Tripod. Can you folks recommend the top 3 between $200 and $300.

Thank you.

See Fred's post right after your initial post. "Nice" and "$200 to $300" sill leaves a lot to be known if you really want valuable help.

Any suggestions on purchasing a Manfrotto tripod for a beginner. What parts would I need.
