A few months ago I started playing around (with no idea what I was doing) with my parents' old Olympus C-4040 Zoom camera. I soon caught the photography bug, and started learning some things and getting better. I don't know how good a camera the C-4040 is, but I know it's really old at this point, with a low megapixel count. I'm ready for something new and better.
1. I'm willing to spend as much as $200, but would prefer $150 if it meets my needs
2. I will mostly be photographing outdoors, nature and scenic
3. Need macro mode
4. I would like some manual control. I know this is usually limited with point and shoots but the C-4040 let you adjust F-stop, white level, ISO, exposure time. I would like at least these manual adjustments available.
5. Need viewfinder
6. At least 4x zoom
I do electronics as a hobby and fairly often need to take close up pictures of projects, hence the macro mode. Other than that, outdoor scenery and wildlife will be the focus. It doesn't really matter how good it is for photographing people; that's not my main focus and any camera in this range ($150-200) will be totally fine in that respect, for me.
I'm going on a trip to the American Southwest this summer, to see the Arches, Hopi ruins, Grand Canyon, etc. so I want to develop my skills before then and have a decent camera to take some nice pics on the trip.
I'm still learning, and that's about all I can tell you...any recommendations would be appreciated. I've looked at the Canon A720 and A570, as well as Fujifilm S700 so far which all seem pretty good but I'm open to anything else.
