Seriously, who CARES what Simon or anyone else thinks about your gear? Does it really matter? Is what he said going to impact your ability to take wonderful pictures? I didn't think so. So get over yourselves and go take some!

And before you start calling me troll-this and troll-that, I'm an unapologetic Oly "fanboy". And I like my E-3 as much today as I did yesterday. So there!

Thanks. I feel much better now!

Cheers,
Dylan

for rating E-3 as highly recommended. We don't know how many live we would have lost if it was only "recommended".

Our nation's suicide rate is safe till the E-4's review.

until somebody else says it's okay, how will I know if I'm happy with my camera?

I think I need a piece of Key Lime pie, now.

You stated that much more politely than I might have.

Interestingly my merely "recommended" 5MP, arguably 4.9MP, E-1s still are quite capable of assisting me in making a good snapshot from time to time.

Luckily for you Bill (and me), the E-1 is one of the finest, best handling DSLR's ever produced. Such qualities will never be captured in a sterile review environment such as DPR (no offense meant to those who like that sort of thing). For those who enjoy exquisite workmanship it's a real pleasure, and such a bargain too - if you can still find a new one :).

Couldn't agree more.

My E-3 was a dud, so it had to be returned, but I am impatiently waiting for the replacement, and I know the E-3 will serve me well once the issues are fixed.

As for the review, excellent for those who love loooooooooooong reviews. I just couldn't force myself to go through every page. I got bored after a while, and what I miss most is the "Excecutive summary" section I learned every document must start with. I also miss a link to the last page, so I could jump there and work my way backwards.

I don't have an E3, but the review was revealing in a number of ways. I like to think of myself as a Nikon kind of guy, but I currently only own an E-510 with kit. The thing that kept me from buying an E3 in the first place was the cost and I was sitting on the fence waiting for the new Nikon D90, but it of course when it turned into the disappointing D60 announcement I turned my thoughts to the Nikon D200 and E3. Cost was still an issue, but I love my E-510 and wanted a more substantial feeling camera. But after this review, I find myself rethinking again. For this camera to receive this kind of review and still charge top dollar is a farce.

I think Olympus will have to adjust the price downward into current D200 territory or you can forget about new buyers coming on board. The review was not all bad for the E3 but it is clear that it is just not quite ready to compete at its current price point with the Nikon D300. But, without rebates and price cutting, I just don't see much of a future for this model and that is a shame.

I think E3's features warrants it's price tag. E3 has significant features that are better or D300 doesn't even have. I myself bought E3 over D300.

Like you said you're Nikon kind of guy. Of course everyone has different perspectives and needs. I have to disagree with your saying that E3 should cost same as a 2-year old D200.

Well there were a lot of black and white TV sets with great features too, but when was the last time you saw a feature loaded black and white TV in stores for sale?

You could plate the E3 in gold and call that a feature too, but the test results would still be the same. Sub Par!

And in fact, BETTER colors than the D300, or any other Nikon below the D3.

So this critique is silly and irrelevant. The fact is, the E-3 and the D300 are very comparable cameras. The E-3 has some features and areas of performance which are superior to the D300, and vice versa. There is more than enough rationale for both cameras to exist in the marketplace.

Your analogy is..well, sub par.

I've heard a lot complaints about E3's price and size. They probably don't need a "semi-pro" level camera. They should just stick with Rebel, D40, E410, etc.

Or perhaps the could just spend their money on a camera that can pass a review with acceptable results.
