D300 camera strap recommendations please

Goes for about $21 - I like the Pro Loop version. Good padding, has nice little rubber nubs to prevent slipping on the shoulder. Just a plain black strap - no conspicous logo.

if you're an over-the-shoulder kind of shooter, the upstrap is amazing. Almost too good in it's ability to stick to your shoulder.

Ditto. Go with the Optech. It distributes the weight of the camera so well, you sometimes forget it's on your shoulder.

Taking the Nikon strap off of my camera would be like tearing the F-550 emblem off of the fender of my Pick-Up truck.

Nothing doing, I want to wear my Nikon emblem, and when I wear it out, I'll buy another! lol

...I started wearing my shirts inside-out so folks could see the label. And I'm thinking of wearing my undershorts outside over my trousers so people can be sure I'm beyond cool!

I kinda like the low key, low profile approach to camera straps. Bright yellow letters on a black stripe are fine, if your ego is so tightly wrapped to your camera. (I even black out the red "steal me" dots on my Leicas and tape over the "Leica M6".)

Over the years I've liked the Domke straps, which have a cotton web neck band with rubber interwoven for grip. Most of what you see in stores (if you can find them) have the swivels, which I don't like. Online you can find them swivel-less and in colors like dark blue and tan in addition to black.

Recently I happened upon the Lowe-Pro Speedster, which is another low (lowe?) profile strap. It has all nylon construction (with rubber grip threading). There are two quick-releases towards the ends, and the smaller strapping that attaches to the camera is pretty rugged. This strap resists twisting naturally. I'm a little bit both ways regarding the quick releases. They seem pretty secure, and might even make packing the camera a little easier. I'll probably take advantage of them when I resume shooting sports on the body I use with the big lens on a monopod. Going tourist with that strap...I was thinking about drilling a small hole in the center and using a zip-tie to safety-lock the quick release in situations where I really wanted to make sure everything stayed together. I always travel with a bunch of ties anyway, so no big deal there.

Wide neoprene straps never appealed to me, especially in hot weather.

Take a look at Think Tank straps too.

The only thing I buy from Ritz/Wolf Camera is their Quantary Neoprene camera strap. It is $9.95 and the neoprene adds a little 'give' to the strap while walking. It has a rubber anti-slip coating around the neck. Works great. I've got one for each of my three bodies (D300 + MB-D10, F100 + MB-15, N80/F80).

Sure I cover the Quantary w/ black electrical tape... But not because I'm ashamed of it saying Quantary (okay, maybe a little... LOL). I do the same to the Nikon and model numbers on each of my camera bodies. Even my lens caps. I don't like paying thousands of dollars to companies to advertise FOR THEM I suppose. : )

The price is right, and performance is as good as I could want. YMMV.

Cheers.

I've been using Domke non-QD straps for years, and don't have any complaints. I like the anti-slip property.

+1 for the Upstrap. I bought the quick release model which I can only describe as the perfect over-the-shoulder strap. And I'm pretty sure you have a 30 day return policy--if you don't like it after a month, you can return it for a full refund. What more could you ask?

Get rid of it. I know a guy who actually tapes over his. I've never used one of the gaudy yellow steal-me straps. Just maybe if Nikon paid me. What are they using on NCIS these days?

Beware of the Lowe-pros - the rings clatter and bang against the LCD panel.

Wedding guys should beware some straps with rubber non-slip will ruin white shirts. I have a few.

My solution was to just use the top quality decades old leather original F2 strap. Why does Nikon keep all those old 60's leather camera cases in production but not the straps?

All I can afford is a (old) half-frame from Thailand.

I'm kind of the opinion that nearly any thief is going to be able to distinguish a nice SLR camera with a decent lens from a cheapee point and click camera. IMHO, trying to disguise it would be like slapping a Hyundai logo on a BMW ... you can still tell it's a BMW.

With or without a Nikon strap or logo on the camera, the camera will still be a theft item.
