17-55 - Is Canon going to launch a new version?

I would be sad. If there were a new one, I'd wait for reviews. The 17-55 is already amazing in IQ and usability (almost always on my camera). The only thing I'd improve are dust sealing, and more quality zoom mechanism...though I somehow doubt that Canon will knight any of its EF-S series a "L lens." Also, I'm not clear on the mechanics of lenses (studying bio in college right now), but it would be awesome to have internal zooming. I have two internal zoomers (both 70-200L's), and I like it a lot better.

You can do it because you believe you can do it. So do it!

The lens is better than 90%+ of all Canon lenses so I guess it has a pretty low priority on Canon's list for upgrade.

The dust issue is a red herring. Dust affects a very few individual lenses of a hugely popular model. Mine is going on two years now, used daily in commercial and fun service, and has zero internal dust. It's a great reason to buy an APS-C camera body..
Yup. It is a great lens. I don't have dust after 5 months usage. :)

I thought mine was invincible (it held up about a year). Now it has several dust pieces. Not that I really care; it's not showing up on the image. Annoying nonetheless.

I backordered one yesterday from B&H. You can only do this by phone. The website doesn't have an option to back order it. Use the supercoupon.com coupon to get it at $853!
