I'm happy that the thread 70-300 examples helped a lot of people. Today, I went out with my brother (and his Nikon D80) and we ended up in the Garden of the Gods where I captured some rock climbers with the Oly 70-300 at different focal lengths. I decided they would be a good addition to the gallery as an example of the same subject at different focal lengths. Same as before, no post processing, straight from the camera as shot. E3 with 70-300, ISO 100. This also serves as a good example of the lenses "range" of use.

Below are smaller images and the full size originals with no PP are in the same gallery at

Look to the right of the top most climber. There is a "white speck". On the full size original you will see there are actually 4 "specks" which are 4 pigeons.

1/640s f/6.3 at 133.0mm iso100

1/500s f/6.3 at 190.0mm iso100

1/500s f/7.1 at 300.0mm iso100

And last of all, the rock climbers taking a picture of me taking a picture of them.

Excellent work... My 70-300 should be here Wednesday... But I won't have much luck getting outdoors with it in the sub zero weather we are having in the upper mid-west. Come on spring! Probably will take it to Alabama (Huntsville area) with me to see my parents next month for spring break with the kiddies.

Nice shots David. I see quite a few white 'specks' there, seems that is a popular spots for the birds to hang out. I'm really impressed with the reach of the 70-300 and I'm happy that Olympus has finally made that available at an affordable price. I'm starting to itch for more however, I wonder how the 70-300 performs with the EC-14.

Yes quite a few birds. The Sandstone rock formations are pocketed with wind and rain errosion "caves" that provide desirable nesting areas away from bad weather.

Nice! :) Got any 70-300 Macro shots? I haven't had time to take any pictures lately and all the dragonfly's and butterfly's are a month away at least. I hope it does a decent job with them.

Nothing serious yet, but some tests in the following gallery.

I'll have to ask my brother if he wants to share his D80 shots. I know that he shot the rock climbers but from a little different perspective using his 70-300 Nikkor and D80. No promises but I'll ask. Neither one of us is prone towards comparing our cameras or systems as we respect each others choices, and just shoot with what we like and are comfortable with. We go out together, but each do our own thing with our tools of choice.

Took these on sunday when the birds buggered off. Taken with the 70-300 at 300.

What looks like jagies on the first shoot is actualy fine ridges on the outer part of the wing.

WOW!

I am impressed. Can you tell me a little more about exactly how you captured these images and how far away you were from the insects?

tripod?

Thanks
