Always the 21 mm and 43 fixed focal length lenses. Sometimes also one of the 14mm, 77 mm, or 100 mm macro lenses. Less may be more.

I keep the K10D w/grip in the small bag along with:

A Sigma 28-105mm walk-around lens on the camera,
A Sigma 70-300mm APO for the longer stuff,
A Tamron 90mm for the macro stuff,
A Pentax-A 50mm 1.7 for the IR and low light stuff,

3 CPs for 49mm, 58mm, and 62mm, a 58mm AML for the Sigma 70-300, IR filters for 49mm and 58mm,

And finally a Sigma 1.4x and Vivitar 2x MFTC in case I need a little extra length.

(Occasionally, my Nikon Coolpix 2500 w/ extra batteries, if I'm in the mood for something lighter weight and possibly pocketable.)

Oh, and my medications. It's a great excuse to have to keep the camera bag with me at all times. :> )

I'm still looking for the right external pouch to mount my Vivitar 285HV and batteries to it somewhere. The FlashWaves radio triggers for it should be no problem.

K10D
DA 12-24/4
DA*16-50/2.8
DA*50-135/2.8
FA100/2.8 macro
FA43/1.9 Limited
tamron 1.4x TC
AF540FGZ flash
FA*300/4.5 and sigma 8/4FE in another small bag
190PROB tripod with 410 geared head

i take another small bag for walking away from the car with what i think i will need out of the other bags.

I rarely carry three or more lenses. I don't like a large bag, i don't use my Pentax DSLR for travel much, and I'm not good about changing lenses while out. I just don't like to fuss or to make my companions stop and wait while I tend to my camera. I realize many many others view this differently, of course.

I try to set up according to what I think I'll be doing. If for instance an evening soccer game (or indoor stage production I can shoot), I'll take a 135-f2.5 and a 1.4 50mm as backup. If wide is needed, I take my 24mm f2.8. If it is just general shooting outdoors, I usually take only the 18-250. That's why I got that lens. If indoors, it is usually the 50 plus the 28-70 f2.8 as backup, or the 24.

I've tried to build my lens collection with versatility in mind, and convenience. With the availability of older lenses and third-party lenses, Pentax is a very good brand for those of us who can't always afford the really expensive lenses.

Most of the time:

K10D, DA21, FA43, DA70, AF360FGZ.
Extra SD cards, bic-sized card reader, LensPen/brush, microfiber cloth.

Sometimes I add the FA135.

Occasionally I opt for just my DA16-45 and DA50-200, though it's been awhile since that happened.

K10D, DA16-45, DA70, extra battery, cables, dust blower, IR remote. Sometimes charger. Sometimes M-135/3.5, but then the bag is getting full (I have one of the small Lowepro Nova AW models).

The standard load is
DA 18-55 (if I plan to shoot sceneries I take DA 14/2.8 also)
M 80-200 (if I plan to use long lenses I take K 200/2.5 instead)
M 100/4

A 35/2 (in case I know there is lack of light or I think I need better sharpness than the 18-55 can deliver)
2x teleconverter
extension ring set

As my DS does not have shake reduction I always carry a monopod or tripod also.

For special occasions I select other lenses.

I carry my Kit, a 135mm manual focus f/2 prime and a Tamron 70-300mm. Sometimes I swap the 135 out for a 28mm f/2.5 or a fast 50 but my staples are the 18-55 and the Tamron 70-300.

I find I want to travel light then get dissappointed that I didnt take that equipment that I need.

For example to today I conned my self that I only needed my walk around lens as I was going to try to grap some spillway shots of the loacal dam { Capalaba }, so all I took was the small bag with lens cloth spare batteries and artic butterfly. But when I got there the dam spill way was closed. I looked around then decided to see what wildlife I could get. So no 100 mm macro, no 2x tele converter to compress the DOF, no 35mm my favourite landscape lens and most important no tripod....

Later on today when I went through my shot I really regreted not takeing my tripod. Never again It will live in the car.

My normal kit is
k100
K1000
Ir film for the K1000
SMC 35 mm
SMC 100 Macro F4
Tammy 28-200
2x tele converter
Artic butterfly
lens cloth
spare batteries
spare sd cards
Sunpack flash

As for he 28-200 tammy make sure you get the mark 2 version of this lens. The mark 2 has better CA control and little distortion As this lens is now discontinued you can get it as a great price. I rate the same as the DA 50-200 for performance. Its fairly decent in good hands, well made and light.

What is in my camera bag?

Usually the camera bag is a LowePro Orion and it carries the following:
K10D w/ DA*16-50
DA*50-135
DFA100
FA31
AF540FGZ flash w/ Soften defuser
AF360FGZ flash w/ Soften defuser
flash remote cable
Rocket Blower
Lens tissue
Extra batteries for camera and flashes
Remote control
Polarizer filters

Dave

I've got in my bag:
K10D
Sigma 18-125mm (default lens)
Pentax SMCP-FA 50mm 1.4
Pentax SMC 50mm Macro
Sigma 70-300mm
Sigma 500DG-ST Flash
K10D Battery Grip
2 Extra 1500mAh batteries
Expodisc
Circular Polariser
Various cleaners (Cloth, 2 lens pens, blower)
Power Cables
USB Cables
Video Cables
Cable Release
Mini Maglite
Remote Control
2 4GB Card spares
2 1GB Card containing "Firmware" (1.10 Hack, 1.30) incase I need to adjust AF
and,
2-pack Beef Jerky - just incase.

If I'm going to shoot a specific thing or event, I take whatever I feel will work best. My every day carry bag has a K100, wired remote, spare batteries, spare SD card, Sigma 500 super flash, off camera flash cord, Sigma 10-20, Pentax 16-45, Tamron 24-135, Tamron 70-300 and a Pentax A 50 1.7. This all fits neatly in a Lowepro Off Trail 2 bag that can be hand carried or worn around the waist. This kit allows me to grab a shot of almost anything I happen upon except for true macros or extreme tele shots.

Hi:

I carry:

Pentax K10D;
Pentax lens FA 28-85mm
Sigma lens APO 70-300mm Macro
Pen flash 330FTZ

And all these equipment weights more than 50 Kg (after a 2 hours walk!!!!) LOL.

Cheers,

What do you carry in your bag when go to shoot?
Depends on the shoot, but usually I carry the DA21 and FA43 as my defaults. If I think I'm going to need a bit more reach, I stuff the DA70 in too. Those three together are small and light enough that I can nearly always carry them without thinking too much about it.

Godfrey

I am not sure there is a simple answer to that question.

My last outing (this sunday):
A nature trekker II backpack with:
D3, 14-24G, 70-200VR, 50/1.4D
Standard cleaning kit
filter kit and my main tripod.
Cable release
Mini rocket blower

The day before (saturday):
A toploader 65AW,
K10D+grip+L-bracket
DA14
DA21ltd
ND grads
Main tripod slung casually over the shoulder.

I generally load my bag depending on what I have to do.

A portrait session or event, calls for a different kit than a full day landscape hike.

I have a number of different bags in different sizes and most of them in regular use.

But above is what I used this weekend (both were landscape outings)

I usually bring the toploader with the k10D, FA43 and DA21 with me, everywhere I go:)
