you just have to look really hard! You can barely make out the face!
This camera sucks!

While I can not see the detail in the scarf I just know that this is a really neat shot. After all, D3, and what more could you want...Camera does it all, right?

in the meantime between time, the D3 is a neat machine. gotta use your head though. Histograms is histograms, they often are liars though. The film is cheap so no one can complain about the cost of experimentation. Just go shoot. John

this must be your user error... no other possibility,
you should not use P mode...it does not work in a pro camera,
use manual like what I have always done ever since the era of matrix metering,
there is nothing wrong or new about your meter as it did expose correctly,
nothing is blown here...you just did not like the look of it,,,white is white,
this is still better than your D2X...get over it,

For your own good, go back to the basic...

Actually I will try to salvage you, you poor sod, spot metering and manual mode are there for a reason; 3D-colour matrix metering is just advertising junk. Let me show you how to manually expose....first the zone system....

Dave, your photography is generally pretty good.
So, I'm guessing the image you attached here is
also a pretty good one. I like your compostion
and that you maintained a good focus on the
eyes. Good job.

Gees, for $5000, the D3 takes perfect pictures of ducks, swans, cows, dogs, cats, walls, and birds, all in P mode with matrix metering, which cooks toast perfectly when needing breakfast in bed. What more could you want?

Alternative responses that could come up: :-)

1) eee Dave, haav yu red the maanual, seccion por exposur, yes?
2 Gee man! You have 5k camera and don´t know anything?
3) What a worthless post!

4) See Dave, there are lot´s of knobs on the camera from which you can adjust the the collor and light of the picture you are taking. Please try all of them out and report here if there are any changes in the pictures. Otherwise you have to send your body to Nikon Service! Maybe the knob for picture lightness is stuck?

I didn't know you could play Pong in the D3! What a find!!! ;^)

The white balance is amazing! Not a shade off tone!

Dave,

What lens did you use for this shot? I've got the 24-70 on order and wonder if I should change it..
