First of all, thank you for participating in this challenge. It’s been quite difficult to make the top 20 selection with so many great entries!

To continue a fine tradition, I’ll start of with the #20 to #11, in random order:

Venee – Poznan

Phihop – Driving fast through old little city, Ainsa

Kathryne – Vancouver

JMacedo – Bangkok

Kmaurer – Omaha, Nebraska

Alexring – Athens, Greece

Gobongo – The awakening of Harlingen

Hunter20ga – Bismarck, ND

Mikechang – Taipei, Taiwan

Baxtertimewell – St. Louis

And now…#10 to #1!

10. Andre Bomhof – Canal scene from Gouda, Holland

Great shot, Andre. Almost like an old Dutch painting.

9. Sumerland – Berlin

And totally unbiased, I can say that Berlin is my favourite city in Europe. Excellent night shot!

8. Ianbramham – Manchester in the 21st century

City of Joy Division! You have a great eye for lines and colors, Ian.

7. Wupeide – Financial district, New York

Great architecture shot, Peter! You could easily sell this photo to the building owner, I guess.

6. Morris – New York, New York

Excellent pano. Classic composition, but I really enjoy it. Would make a great poster!

5. Nilsch – Bergen, Norway

Simply WOW!

4. Ellar – Laxey, Isle of Man

Great view, excellent choice of B/W.

3. Orangedial – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Great B/W, documentary style. I hope that’s not your car, though.:-)

2. Sparticat – West Chicago, IL

I really like the atmosphere in this photo, great shot and pp!

1. Thr33face – Reflecting Vienna

Great photo, excellent night atmosphere. I converted it to B/W which makes it even stronger. But a deserved winner, imo!

So, thr33face, congratulations winning this challenge! I want to ask you to host the next challenge!

Cheers,
Mark

Excellent challenge and some fantastic results!
There are some beautiful towns out there :-)

And best of all, this challenge actually got me out to take some photos of "My Town" - and anything that gets me out and about with my camera has to be a good thing!!!
My favourite was #2 "Sparticat – West Chicago, IL".

Thanks for conducting this challenge, Mark. A great job and
well done!
The level of the contributions was very high. Impressive stuff.
Many congrats to the winner, thr33face. :)

André

Thanks to VAT69 for hosting this challenge and to all the entrants for sharing some wonderful images. I am humbled to have been included in the top 20.

I would be interested to know more about the PP in #2 if the shooter is willing to share.

The night was very foggy and that, combined with the sodium vapor lighting and a long exposure, account for the majority of the tone. PP was done in Lightroom with hefty amounts of contrast, clarity, brightness and vibrance adjustments to bring out the detail of the bricks and deepen the blacks.

Here are the LR settings-

The frame, color profile conversion, resizing and final sharpening (with USM) were done in CS2.

Thanks for asking!

Thanks for the recognition - I probably would have rated things a bit differently, but there were some really stellar shots this time.

Cheers,
Peter
