Happened to look outside this evening and saw a rainbow or part of one. Looked again and it was a full arc ground to ground. Grabbed the camera. Always wanted to get a good rainbow shot and this was my first opportunity with digital. Got some shots and we even had a double rainbow. I've seen double rainbows before in Wyoming but not in WA. The rainbows weren't necessarily spectacular and probably got as good as I could get. I hope to post them to pbase later.

Was wondering...anyone manage to capture a rainbow? If so, how?

As far as how to get them...I couldn't say anything special has to be done...I've gotten a few & they have basically showed up as they looked...I shoot in "P" mostly & play with metering & EV but maybe a polorizer or ND filter might accentuate a rainbow...Here are two produced by the mist emminating from Niagara Falls:

This is part of what was out there this evening. Not necessarily
great but it was what was there. Would love to see other rainbow
shots and find out how you have been successful at capturing them.

Hey UZIp, nice pictures. That Sheraton in the background, I stayed there fore 3 days when I came to Niagara Falls. I was on the 22nd floor, GREAT view, but this was before I had my UZI =('''' I REALLY wish I had it then, that 10x zoom would've been awesome!!!!! That is a really good place to capture rainbows, they're almost ALWAYS there!!!

Both shots are great. The second one is really awesome. I especially like how sharp and crisp the birds are flying around. As it was loading on my screen I was trying to figure out what the first one was. Great---thanks for sharing. Like you, I shot my in P playing with the exposure---and I got what was there.

Ok here is my rainbow shot. Shot in p mode from my patio. I didn't do to much messing around...just point and shoot I was to busy watching for a tornado.

I have also started a gallery for storms because here in kansas it gets fun. Someone told me we had 20 sightings of tornados yesterday. We also had some come thru today too. I am going to try and get out this weekend to get some photos of towns the tornados went thru.

This shot is when I chased some tornado/storms on april 18 this year. I was running down the front side trying to get around to the back of the storm.

This is some hail we recieved from the same storm.

Shanley,

Good rainbow. I really like how the patio post adds to the shot. Rainbows make for good subjects but you have to be ready for them.

Watchout with the tornado chasing----remember what happened to Dorothy and Toto----not everyone is as lucky as they were. Good luck with the storm shots---you have some good lightening storms too. Wouldn't that be a nice catch?

I grew up in NW Kansas and remember the storms and tornadoes. Love that country.

Chowder,

That shot is just as cute as can be. Definitely a keeper. Glad you shared that one.

I have been watching the forum for about a month and haven't seen or heard about any rainbow shots. Its great to see the ones people have shared here.

Don't worry I am not as stupid as some of the others that drive right into it......I will stay at about the distance you see from the shot. I did try some lighting shots one night got off about 100 shots but didn't have any luck.....just alot of black... I might have a better chance during the day.

Ross, I seem to be having a de ja vous with this photo...Seems like I was there...hey, I was! That was a nice photo shoot day...to bad we both have to work now...

Maybe some weekend we could go shooting again...Let me know...

Thanks, Personally, as far as rainbow content only...I'd have to say yours dusts mine....LOL

Thanks----for the beginner that I am I take that as a major compliment.

Rainbows are rainbows and we get them where they are--alone or with other scenery---I think they enhance the surroundings nicely as they do in your shots.

iBob,

Good job catching two at once. Nice shot----gotta get 'em when you can.

The double rainbows I've seen and the ones posted here show the inner bow as more brilliant. They make nice subjects---even better if you can get two for one. Thanks for sharing.
