vmware install?

that hasn't been my experience.

You have to use VMware's conversion tool to morph the Parallels vm-image to VMware's format. Took about an hour for me.

Are you glad you made the switch? Did VMWare automatically use the copy of windows that Parallels used? Can you print from Qimage or was that a goal?
Thanks

Glad I read this topic. I just purchased a Mac Pro and I haven't used a Mac before. I purchased Fusion from Apple last week. I decided to look at the CD that came with the package and it's version 1.0. In this thread people are talking about version 1.1.1

At least when I first install the software on my machine, hopefully It will go a bit smother.

Thanks everyone.

I'm not sure I made the switch :/

I still have both on my machine. I try to stay out of the PC world if possible but it does feel like VMware is snappier but I've found some funkiness w/ Fusions networking support that I have to jump through hoops when dealing w/ the office.

But I do like it, don't get me wrong.

The version of WinXP lives inside the OS image and it's the OS image that VMware converts from Parallels format to VM format. So it just works.

In order to truly appreciate the Mac, try to do as much as possible on the Mac side. I would isolate the Windows side from the web for instance and do all you surfing and email on the Mac side. Also, when in doubt, try to find Mac equivalents for whatever you used to use in Windows.

Only my opinion. It's worth what you paid for it. Your mileage may vary! ;-}

Hi,

I have Parallels 3.0 and Fusion 1.1.1 and have not yet done enough testing to determine which is best... but Parallels does come with Kapersky security.

I ONLY use IE in windows to update my Win XP or Qimage installations. After that is done Windows will only come up when the connection to the Internet is off... when I don't have to I don't do anything in WinDoze.

I only wish we had a Qimage ported for MAC!

You don't even need to transfer it. You can mount the disk with the picture in fusion and read it directly from there.

Hi,

Check your mail... I am about to try the same thing you are doing.

All my color correction and image editing with CS3.. even my soft
proofing will be done on the Mac OSX Tiger side of the house. I am
thinking that once I have the image looking the way I want it I just
transfer to Qimage in Win-XP and print it... with it doing its
automatic upsizing magic..

Is this just wishful thinking?

I was lucky,

I had a previously created Parallels 2.5 VM saved as a backup and the demo of Parallels was able to update it to Parallels 3.0.. I then used Fusions conversion utility to convert THAT into a FUSION VM which then worked just fine... except that the Fusion VM pakes up 25GB where the Parallels VM 3.0 only used 5 GB...
Wonder why Parallels is so much smaller....?
