I'm wanting to create a Pano shot using HDR.

Should I combine the HDR images first and then make the pano or the other way around?

any photoshop tutorials on this subject would be helpful if you have a link.

thanks

I think it doesn't matter, before or after you just have to insure that the same post-processing is equal in all the images, or that all the panos are the same to the pixel size. I would do it first individual images because it's easier.

I was assuming the pano would be first, and the HDR would be second because the post processing would be harder with it.

thanks

agreed, pano first then HDR after, its usually pretty difficult to get the "exact" HDR results on multiple files so you would see lines in your pano if you did it before (at least thats what i'm guessing)

I agree. I have tried it both ways and have firmly settled on creating three (or more) panos, each reflecting a different exposure. I do the blending between them semi-manually, but I would expect a similar conclusion if I were using one of the popular HDR programs. The transitions between frames can be delicate, especially where uniform skies are involved, and blending the exposures of each frame before stitching increases the risk of tone differences that can't be corrected by the pano software.

I've always assembled the pano, then open with camera raw saving three exposures, and run your HDR software. I've got a skyline on my website done in this manner.

if you buy PTGuiPro software then you do not have to do anything to the pics at all. simply load the pano images, hdr or regular, and the software makes your pano.

PTGuiPro is the best pano maker out there. expensive, but it does more than any other one. it also makes 360degree and 720degree spherical panos. i do not know of another software that can. it also has seemingly no limit on the number of pics used to make the pano.

thanks for sharing.

What HDR software do you use, just photoshop?

I'll have to look at all of it on larger monitor. Mine is only a 19" and I can't see the photos because they scroll off the screen after mousing over the thumbnail.

Thanks. I use Photomatix for the HDR stuff it's worth the price. Using Adobe camera raw is way to possibly cheat the process if you don't want to spend the time to stitch three or more panos of differing exposures. If memory serves me correctly I believe that image was three differing exposures. I also removed the sky to avoid the halo effect from tone mapping and dropped it back in afterwards. I also use the best original exposure behind the HDR image to paint back in areas of detail with a layer mask in dark(noisy) areas and blown highlights. PS CS3 does a great job with Pano's much improved over CS2.

You should be able to view everything on a 19" screen - is your text set to a large size? I can view my site on a 15" laptop.

Thanks John! I appreciate the kind words. I'm not sure where some of the ideas come from but if you're ever interested, I have just started putting up some behind the scenes stuff on my blog. I hope to expand it soon with tips and what not - as time allows.
