I have been unlucky with a few Canon S5. Now the customer service decided to let me give the G9 shot.

I checked the G9, there is no hot spot or dead spot, which is the problem I had with the S5.

But I have spent like 150$ on the accessories for the S5. If I take the G9, that means I need to spend another 150 on new accessories. I hate carry extra special batteries for G9 (I love my A95 and S5 for standard batteries).

I havn't tested the video quality yet, coz the memory card comes with G9 is a joke ( well, I think I save some money coz it can use the two 8G SDHC card I bought for S5).

Anyway, should I keep the G9 or stick with S5?

Tough call when money has to be spent on secondary issues like accessories. Yet I am having a lot of fun with my G9. I've stopped using my FZ30 and always leave my 400D at home. The G9 is just fun and flexible enough to take anywhere. Just my opinion. Go for it! Curt on Cape Cod

Just as likely another S5 would also have no hot spot or dead spot. If the store have a bunch of S5 with problems they should return them to Canon.

Arty here has just written a novel about his G9 hot spot

But I want to exchange my S5 for a higher value product like G9, or the XT rebel.

I want a semi-pro camera for now. I know I am on my way to a 40D sometime next year.

Do you think a lensemate hood is neccessary?
