Any chance this auction is legit?

Taylor,

I always hesitate to bid on an auction where the seller has zero feedback. I know that people have to start SOMEWHERE but for a big ticket item that is awfully risky. If you email him and they insist on payment with Western Union then you will know it is bogus. IMHO the vast majority of auctions that demand payment with WU are not legit.

His listing says "usa" but his contact info says canada. I've seen several possible scams like this. IMO Ebay doesn't do enough to deter this type of thing.

same is true if they will only accept a Cashier's check (some call it a Bank Check).

Scotty, that's not necessarily true. I will not take a personal check under any circumstances as my bank will charge me for a bounced check. I recently sold my D30 on eBay and asked for a Cashier's or Certified check or Paypal and gave the buyer my tel number to discuss the transaction. Good open communication is the best policy. I explain everything to the buyer to make him/her comfortable and that goes a long way to squelching doubts on their behalf.

No, that's not true. I never accept personal checks. ONly Money Order, Casheir's Check, or PayPal. Nothing else.

Hi,

I've been wondering if anyone else had been paying attention to the D-60,D30,and Eos-1D scam looking sales on ebay. I have been e-mailing all of them asking why they only accepted money order or cashiers checks and nothing else, not even Paypal. I told them it was taking an awful big chance for any buyer to pay that much money and possibly get nothing, and if they were for real to please e-mail me a number or something to get a hold of them. None of them ever e-mailed me back and two withdrew their items later the same day. One of them was an Eos-1D, item # was 1351279192. Most of them were from out of the country even though they listed the US and they all joined ebay the day of the listing of the item or the previous day. I think we should ALL contact them when we see these, as ebay doesn't seem to do enough to stop these scams. We need to stick together and get them OFF there. I also e-mailed the high bidders on these auctions to bring these things to their attention in case they were for real bidders.

Take care and stay ALERT!!! Lots of good items out there and lots of ways to lose lots of money.

I follow all the D60 auctions and several other expensive electronic auctions also. I used to post notice of phony looking auctions here but other members complained about it being a waste of time, "anyone who buys on eBay deserves what they get", etc., so now I just watch and report probable frauds to eBay. This one is definitely a fraud. 4 sure signs of fraud are "0" feedback, generic or ripped off photo, 3 day auction, and cashiers check or money order only. All of these are present here. Also, the seller doesn't explain if he/she is a dealer, why he/she is selling the camera, whether it has been used, or anything. Instead, the description is just ripped off a Canon advertisement or press release. I bet this auction is pulled before it is completed. Those others probably weren't withdrawn by the sellers, they were removed by eBay after they were noticed and reported.

No feedback and only takes Cashier checks and MO. Most likely it
is a scam.
AND the person has sunglasses, which means they've been with eBay for less than 30 days, or changed their ID within 30 days.

If you see a problem tell eBay and they'll take appropriate action.

Look at the following four links. They are all very strange.

1. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1351448067
2. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1351685493

3. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1351777108 (already pulled out. I e-mail the seller. She is from Romania)
4. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1351989706

The last two are from the same person (seem to be a Romanian) but with different e-mail addresses. Most likely all four are from the same person. When you check their advertisement, you will feel strange because the sellers seem to know very little about their items. And they all have funny reasons to sell them. Seller of the first item said he got the d60 from his uncle as a birthday gift(this item is due tomorrow). Seller of the third one said she got this d60 from Romanian custom in an auction.

Everybody, please be aware.
