Today my cam decided not to go into preview mode, and won't allow me to download to the computer. When I switch to preview, the Canon logo appears, and goes blank, reappears, continuosly. It will take pictures, autofocus seems to work, lens extends and retracts normally, and the battery indicator show a full charge. I've only taken about a hundred pictures so far, and the camera has been performing flawlessly. I tried reinserting the battery, that didn't help. It's charging now (blinking orange light). Is there any history of this camera behaving erratically do to low battery level without a visual indication ?? I'm concerned because I have an event coming up tomorrow that I'm very anxious to get some good pictures of.

Several people have experienced that the G2 behaves erratically. If it’s not back to normal after you have a fully charged battery, try removing the battery and turn the camera on for a while. I think this should reset the camera. I remember a guy who had a battery with a low voltage, which caused the camera to behave erratically. Maybe someone can measure your battery’s voltage.

Remember that the camera is computerised. Computers lock up. Try removing the battery for a short while.

Battery fully charged now, still acting up, even with DC voltage and no battery. Tried turning it on and of, removing battery, etc, (hard re-boot), still the same problem. I found that it would take one picture and only then would the software recognize the camera. I reformatted the CF card, and that seems to have cleared up the problems. I'm wondering now if it's a CF card read/write problem hanging the camera up, like a hard drive with a bad sector hanging up the whole computer.

Thanks for the input. I was beginning to think I was invisible or doing something inappropriate for this forum.

Glad your camera is back among the living!

A lot of the reponse/no response issues to questions here are just a matter of timing. Sometimes a message will only last on the first page for a fairly short time before it gets pushed back to page 2 or worse. Depending on timing also, your question might be seen by no one who has any ideas or a bunch of people that do.

If you post a question and have few or no responses and the message has moved off the 1st page, a good techinque is to "bump" the message. Just post a reply to yourself (it's nice to change the subject to "bump" so that people know there is nothing they should read), and that will move your message back to the top where you will likely generate a better response than your first message.

Cheers,

GTF

Probably the same time that they decided on a program that takes a minute or more to change a file from RAW to Tiff so I can turn it into a JPG. ;-)

It seems to be working fine again. I tend to fear the things I understand the least, and man, I have NO idea what's happening in the little box !!!

ps, here are a few of my very first pictures from last week. I'm intimately aware of the fact that I'm not a photographer, but this is the very first time that what I see with my eyes, and what the camera sees are close to the same thing.
