I just added my name to the BH waiting list for this lens. its not on their website (oddly) but if you call in and ask - they can take your order and ship when it becomes available.

they were not able to tell me how long the wait or how 'deep' the list is. so I'm curious - how many have called and preordered this lens? (US people, mostly, as I understand europe is already getting these ahead of us)

Olympus: E-3, 12-60SWD, EX25, FL50R Waiting for: 50-200SWD

I am waiting in Denmark too.

I am told that it probably will be "early february", but as I do not expect to need it seriously before march, that will be OK for me.

Just ordered mine today from my local camera shop in Middlesbrough. Promised delivery for this Friday. It is coming direct from Germany as Olympus UK dont hold stock in the UK.

Really looking forward to getting this lens.

I bought an E-3 body and grip on 21 December from LCE in the Strand, London. I had to wait 3 weeks for the 12-60mm and when I went to pick it up I asked them call when the 50-200 SWDs finally came in.

Last Wednesday they rang to say they had just received a single lens, so I collected it last Saturday.

To my surprise it was £750, about £100 less than the Oly rep had told me to expect. The LCE staff also agreed that the new lens is smaller than the old 50-200mm. It's very nicely made, too.

Sorry but I can't tell you much more, as I haven't had chance to use it.

I'm actually debating whether or not to sell the 35-100 to obtain the SWD 50-200. I mean, I purchased the F2 lens because I wanted the extra stop without having to go too high in ISO. With the E-3 it's not really an issue with ISO noise for me (unlike the E-300). I think the extra reach would be excellent and I actually considered reserving it prior to my 35-100 purchase... Hmm... after all the discussions about the "needed" SWD implementation in the 35-100... it got me thinking. I was testing my 35-100 in focus hell going from really close to focusing on thing further away... It doesn't seem "fast" but quick... Hmm... what to do... The Bokeh on the 35-100 is so nice though! Just kind of short focal length...

I'm thinking about buying the 35-100mm soon too, but i can't live without the swd. it's so awesome. the fl is not too short.. it's like a 200-300g heavier than a 70-300mm f/2.8L is canon mounted on the 1ds or something

hopefully they come out with the 35-100mm f2 swd version.. that would be great! then i'm all in :D i am definitely buying the 50-200mm swd in the meantime for traveling purposes

the 50-200mm swd should be coming in a 2 days

not sure if you wanna sell it! it looks like an awesome piece of glass. get the 50-200mm swd in addition? haha T_T lenses are expensive

The bokeh on the new 50-200 looks smoother, at least i fail to get those harsh edges i had with the old version.

The focus is definitely faster, but the quite long focusing path can make it go back & forth before hitting focus. The (very) good thing is we can prefocus it manually. Once almost there, it just snaps.

The new lens hood is HUGE, also...

The 35-100 is by far my favorite lens. I would have a hard time selling it unless it was to be replaced by an SWD version... I love this lens and don't think I could part with it. Since posting early this morning I've been using the beast as a walk around lens... lol Just so it gets some use outside of "work" shoots.

I'm wait listed at OneCall for this lens. I should have grabbed the lens when it was in stock last weekend at Pictureline.

I had been thinking about either the old or new 50-200, then I saw that Camera World had the new one for £779 - far better than the £899 I'd seen elsewhere. LCE don't even bother listing either on their website, so after reading this, I emailed my local branch - and was quoted £750 for the lens and £1050 for the E-3.

I now have a date to see them both on Saturday, and as I had to put down a deposit to get them to hold the lens for me, I'm going to be walking out with at least one new toy :)

Unfortunately a friend has just bought a Sigma 30mm f1.4 for his Pentax - I might be needing one of those beasts too!
