Has anyone got any useful tips on using a Sunpak 544 with my C3040z ?

I have read the manuals and played around with different settings, some pics come out ok some not so good.

I want to use the camera/flash combination for taking pictures of people at parties and functions.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks...........Ciolin Dunleavy

Colin,
I am getting very good and consistent results with this flash on my C-2100.

For the type of pictures you want to take, I would set the camera as follows: ISO100; Manual; 1/400 sec; F5.6. Set the flash on auto; F5.6. Then fire away. F5.6 will give you good lighting up to a distance of about 30 feet.

Stay away from any "auto" mode such as P, A or S, since the camera will try to adjust the exposure without taking the flash into consideration.

Most important of all: HAVE FUN!

...are you setting the "power" scale on the flash unit, or does "auto" over-ride that?...

...I've been shooting (with a 555) in manual (flash and camera), with similar settings to yours, and adjusting the power on the flash to what I feel is necessary...and getting by, on a hit or miss basis...mebbe I should be using "auto"?...
...thanks for all your input on this combination...

I am not sure about the 555, but the 544 has a switch (on the back - right side) to select manual or auto. On manual, the power can be adjusted (with the dial on the left side) and on Auto, the output can be adjusted with the auto-dial (on the right side).

For most situations, I use auto and get good results. Sometimes, especially in tricky stuations like fill-in flash directly against the sun, I would use the flash on manual and do what you do.

Hope this helps.

Hi Spannie,

is there a reason why you use 1/400 shutter speed instead of something else ?

Thanks.....Colin

Hi Spannie,

What's required to attach a 555 to the UZi?
Thanks,
Bill

...the 555 is a "handle mount" flash, and comes with it's own bracket, but requires a propietary Oly cable...(pricey, too)...
