Camera stops after 3 frames in burst mode.

I am testing a friends used Nikon D70, thinking about buying it.

I set the camera to burst mode and it stops taking photos after 3 frames, fills up the buffer and then shoots another 2-3 frames and so on. It should though fill up the buffer completely (if I so choose) before it stops, right? What could be be wrong?

1/250sec, 50mm Lens, CF SanDisk Extreme III 2GB

Bracketing is OFF. Noise reduction is OFF. Display is OFF. MF does not help. RAW or Basic JPEG changes nothing, still stops after 3 frames. The buffersize show 9-49 frames depending on file size. Changing to another memory card does not help.

Even when I shoot quickly in Single Mode it stops to refill the buffer after only 2-3 frames taken.

Help!?

The "Image Quality" might be set to "NEF + JPEG BaSIC". These files are large and the buffer can only hold a smaller number of these files.

I hope this helps.

Which noise reduction is off? I am not familiar iwth the D70, but on the D80 it;s not auto ISO, or HIgh ISO, it's the long exposure NR that impacts it the most. Seems odd, but that is often the issue on a D80.

As I wrote, changing from RAW to JPEG did not help, the buffer says that it can take > 9 frames, still i stops at 3. = \

Sorry. I re-read your post and see that you did indicate that the quality setting didn't make any difference.

Perhaps a "RESET" will correct the problem.

I bet you have bracketing on

sorry, just re-read original post and noticed you said that bracketing was off. I still think that since it takes 3 photos and stops that it is somehow tied to bracketing in some way. Good luck, sounds like a tough one.

But what autofocus mode are you using, and is the subject moving (or are you panning)?

In AF-S (or AF-A mode, depending on subject movement) the camera will not fire until focus is locked. It may be that the camera is pausing to re-acquire focus as the subject moves (or as you pan/change composition).

To test maximum burst performance you should switch to AF-C and forget about getting a sharp pic every time :)

Thank you for the suggestion but as I wrote, "MF does not help." So AF shold not be an issue.

(MF = Manual Focus)

The battery was too low to take more then 3 frames rapidly. A re-charge solved it.

Since this was my first time using the D70 i did not know had it was effected by a low battery. Now I know. =)

Thanks you guys for trying to help me out.
