With all of the discussions on buying new cameras and lenses and gear in general, how many camera/lens bags do each of you own and how much in total dollars have you spent on these bags?

I should start:

Tamrac Promessenger 9, Tamrac 619, Tenba LL600, Loweprofftrail 2, tamrac system 3, Pelican soft roller case, small tamrac side case- 900 dollar n=7

Good grief... between still camera and video camera bags; more than I care to count. I will say that the quest for the "Perfect" bag continues to this day.

My 5-year old Mini-Trekker comes pretty close but looses points for needing to be taken off and sat on something to access gear. I also have been using one of the Domke messenger-style bags for light tasks. I can manage to wedge in the D30 or 1V with 100-400/IS, 28-135IS and 550EX flash. It's might tight however.

Now then... I'm off to continue my quest for the perfect bag.

There have been numerous discussions about bags on this forum. There is nothing wrong with asking this. Many people have different philosphies on how to carry or store their gear. This is much more appropriate than many of the rumor threads or threads selling personal gear, or asking the same question that was aked two days ago like how good is broadway photo. If you do not want to answer it.. dont.

I just got a Lowepro Orion AW. I just want the bum bag; don't expect to use the small backpack conversion piece. I also have a 20-year-old Lowe-Pro (notice the difference in spelling) bum bag (precursor to the Orion 1). Wow, the Orion AW is great, if you need to include taller lenses standing up, like 100-400IS, or any flavor of 70-200L. Made very well. $109 from Perk's Photo on Ebay. I don't know how much the old Lowe-Pro bag was. And, I'm currently selling a 20-year-old Tenba pro bag on Ebay, because it's not tall enough for the new lenses. Not sure what I had in that one, either:

Having just converted from a D30 to a 1D, I searched and finally ended with a Domke J3. Just enough room to fit what I will carry on a trip. Previously had a LowePro Off Road, tried a Crumpler (too small), and still own a Tamrac (don't remember the model).

For what it's worth, I think camera bags look way too much like camera bags. Too many people around who would like to have my stuff, and don't want to bother buying it.

I carry my cameras in a padded, soft-sided beer cooler, $6.99 at Wal-Mart. When I need to carry lightstands and umbrellas, or a tripod, I put them in a canvas shotgun case, also from Wal-Mart, $13.99. Both have nice shoulder straps and zipper closures. My Novatron powerpack and heads fit nicely in a gym bag. Wal-Mart again, $5.99

What's that? Twenty-seven bucks?

Admittedly, in this day and age, a guy walking down the street with a beer cooler on one shoulder, and a shotgun case on the other might attract more attention than he wants but, to my mind, it beats chasing down some low-life who just grabbed my Lowe Pro.

The promessenger line from tamrac looks like a brief case and not like a camera bag. mark

Some cheap no-name thingy I got at Ritz or some place. I think it cost about $9.95. Not all my stuff fits so sometimes I have to carry my 50mm in my pocket.

I saw some nice no-name thingys at Best Buy the other day. They were a bit bigger.

I wish I had as much money as you.

4 tamrac backpacks (3 green and 1 black, 3 small one x-large)

easier to not have to put them down and shoot and no one is gunna try to rip it off my back. also have 3 kmart cheapy bags (standard look) for other stuff that stays in the car. and yes, i do use a vest once in awhile (woods treks)

when shooting in crowds i make sure to set the auto-destruct timer in my bag that triggers if it leaves my shoulder.

I have a Tamrac 614 Super Pro bag I spent $250 on, then a Lowepro PhotoTrekker AW Backpack I just got for $250, and a Lowepro Toploader Zoom Pro AW for short jaunts I got for $52. I have a lens case for ALL of the 8 lenses (6 L's and 2 non L's) so I can carry each protected by themselves. Total lens case cost around $160. I have a feeling I might just pick up ONE more bag to be inbetween the Toploader and the backpack. Like one I can take my two large zooms and a wide angle zoom, flash and 1D body. No need right now, but I see it coming in the next 6 months.

LowePro Magnum. It holds two 35mm SLR Bodies, and slots for about 8 lenses of small to medium size. Doubt I could get anything bigger than a 300mm in it. Side pockets could hold two flashes, front pockets hold all the instructions, pockets in the lid hold film (microdrives & APS), has rain fly zipped up on back to pull over entire kit. Also has two straps on it that can hold small tripods.

Bought it in 1998. Haven't need a back since. Though now that I seem to think I need a bunch of lenses, we'll see.

But as far as I know, it's the biggest over the shoulder bag out there. I've not seen anything bigger that isn't a suitcase style.

.

...and when I was at Miami Aquarium and it spun on it's single axis shoulder hanger and the 70-300mm zoom I have sliped out the side onto the asphalt I threw it away.
