And so it begins...the D2Hs sell off.

It really is. I have found that it prints portraits and other people shots at 13" x 19" very very well. For a reference or comparison I also have a bunch of higher mp Canon DSLR's the 300D, 350XT, 20D and 1Ds Mark II. I trust and use my Nikon D1H everyday for almost every thing. The image quality is good enough and the small file size is great to work with. The body is my favorite. I use the refresh then charge method every time the batteries need to be recharged and I get enough images per charge, say over 400. I don't have anything bad to say about battery life. I even use my Canon 580EX flash units with the D1H, set to Manual. With the LCD I am able to dial in the proper exposure right away. Best thing for me is I use only AI and AIS lenses as I prefer the accuracy and consistency of manual focus very much over AF. I have paid so little for the entire lens set that, actually less than a single Canon "L" lens. I have in order every lens from 24mm all the way to 300mm in Nikor glass. I use a 400mm prime lens a Bausch and Lomb in the M42 lens mount - with a M42 to Nikon lens mount converter.

It is now true that since I am an avid landscape photographer and I just purchased a 24" x 36" printer just for landscape prints, I will be using my Canon 1Ds Mark II for it's 17mp for most of my landscape work from now on.

Also true for Birding I will most often use my EOS 1-V 35mm film camera and my 350XT and 20D and 1Ds Mark II with my 500mm f/4.5 and 800mm f/5.6 Sigma Telephoto lenses.

But for everything else it's the D1H.

I own a D3 and 24-70, and will NEVER get rid of my D2hs/17-55!!!

D2hs was/IS a great camera.

Would love to find an unopened body at a good price.

-d-
I notice there are more D2Hs bodies listed on Ebay at one time than
I've ever seen. The prices are still pretty high, not much less than
I paid for a year ago.

My D2Hs and the 17-55 and 70-200 VR is all I need for now but...

My next move is the D3.

Long live the most mis-understood camera in Nikon's DSLR line, the
one of a kind D2Hs!!!

Yep have to agree about the D1h. I am so pleased with mine. Prefere the D1h to my new D80 (should have got a D1x). Lucky I kept the D1h.

After you get your D3, keep your D2hs. I was shooting at a dog show over the weekend and in the middle of a long burst the D3 stopped, an "Err" message flashing on the top of the top of the camera. I put the lens on the D2hs and kept shooting. Any serious shooting requires a backup and the D2hs is a good one to have. Just my 2 cents, but based on experience.

I'm still deciding on the whole D2hs vs. D2xs vs. D300 each offering
an advantage in one area or another. But performance wise I think the
300 is on top.

To me, D2Hs is still the best camera around if you shoot NEF and don't require or don't want large files.

Between D300 and D2X(s), I'll definitely choose D300+grip. I think D300+grip match or surpass D2X(s) in almost every areas.

Between the three you listed above, I choose (and actually own) D2Hs. I wouldn't trade it for D2X(s) or D300 as I currently don't need and don't want large files (my backup is D1H, so it's pretty obvious I don't need high MP cameras).

Just my 0.02

Interesting point. You seem to think that everyone that uses those pro cameras read this board and that the majority post stupid questions. I respectfully disagree. My reply was tongue in cheek, but with a point. Most reasonable persons would choose the best tools they can get to do most any job.

Most that are buying these camera's D2H, D2X and mostly the D3 have
no idea how to use them as evidenced by the basic questions on this
forum. It's been an interesting shift in consumers going right for
the gold and not going thru the normal progression of learning the
basics and starting with entry level gear - i.e. Coolpix, D70, D200,
post processing, the advantages of shooting RAW, etc.
Exactly why I went from a D200 to a D2Hs. I am not a moron or incompetant, but the D3/D300 appears to be the exact opposite of a P&S, and I am not there yet.

Gimme 2 or 3 months with my D2Hs to get there.

If by "best tool" you mean the tool that matches the user's capabilities, I agree. If by "best tool" you mean the tool with the largest list of features, I disagree.

From what I have read on this and the dx00 forum, some of the features and capabilities are beyond some of the users to the point where they have gotten the users into trouble.

Not all.
