Here's a few winter images from my corner of the world:

My super duper truck (MOPAR or nuthin' for this family) :

My unfinished add-on, framing on hold until the snow melts (faithful dog Gus included for free):

Something artsy-fartsy (gotta love that Fuji highlight preservation!!!):

And some familiar faces -- first the Rubster:

And the two-year old, Miss Irie Iris:

And that's it for now from frigid NorCal.
Cheers!

Hey Crystal

I didn't realise you got snow in the desert. We've only had the odd inch or two several times this year but it usually melts or gets rained away quickly.

Of course I have seen all of these wonderful shots before somewhere. In fact I initially thought the truck in the snow shot might be the inspiration for Robert Spencer's "truckin'" series of vehicles in the snow. I decided by his later comments it wasn't.

I was wondering whether that add-on was finished yet. It is going to be one great studio!

Fine insight to your snowy world.
Stay warm.

Nice high key photos.

Your daughter's expression is very sweet in her first shot, but in her second, she seems to be reacting to a suggestion that she help with the snow shoveling.

At least that's the way my kids used to look when I asked for their help, back n the pre-global warming days when it actually snowed in the Northeast.

Woops- re-read my post- I know that you've photographed different kids, of course!

Besides the fact they are "cold" images the snow bodes well for the California drought. Hope you get a lot (and also here in SoCal).

Hi Crystal - Very nice shots. Looks like good, wet snow. I clearly remember how it took 15 minutes to get the kids outfitted with mittens, snowsuit, boots & knit cap. They'd be outside for only 3 1/2 minutes & then be back in, dragging in wet snow, complaining "Mommie, I gotta go......" What fun!

Best regards!

Hi Crystal,

Love those pictures - Love that white, looks white , bright, great!

Good work as usual and the portraits are gorgeous ... as usual...

We had no Winter in Madeira, lowest temperature was about 11 degrees C in some rare days and the rain was very few too - so I just love to check those snow pics :-)

Regards

You certainly are snow deprived there in GB!

Yes, in the high desert the majority of precip comes in the form of snow! And sometimes LOTS of it.

No, not finished by a long shot! I can only dream...

Thanks...the woodpile is getting mighty low so its going to be a challenge :).

Its actually our master bedroom, that will serve as studio until I find a place/kids get older. I might have a line on a killer studio space in-town, without a lot of obligation to be there except for shoots. We'll see how it goes.

The add-on itself is about 22x24 for the main room, and 11x24 for the bathroom/walk-in closet. South facing windows, radiant floor heated, with a loft. The loft will be my husband's music recording studio.

Didn't really plan it as photo studio, we planned it as our bedroom/study so there isn't much "vision" going on in terms of photography.

But if I can get the space in town (about the size of a ballroom!) then I'll be doing some serious planning :).

Thanks for taking the time to comment David :).

Madeira seems like heaven to me right now! Photographing the snow does present some new and interesting compositional opportunities. Glad you liked them enough to post! Good to "see" you, my friend!

Cheers,

photographing in the snow is very interesting... makes all the old haunts new places to explore, for sure.

Yep, I get that expression a lot. But I give it right back, heh heh.
Thanks for taking the time to comment!

We're practically living on top of each other right now so the addition will be wonderful...an honest to goodness room of my own!

Glad you like the snow. I imagine you don't see much of it in SC. Were you able to contact Mr. Scarola?

Hope you're making headway.
Cheers!
