When u got you new D3, is there a plastic cover on the LCD? My don have. And anyone notice somthing like small bubble or circule of about the size of abt 1 - 2 mm on the new LCD. Don seem to be able to clean it off.

No cover needed as the LCD is now tempered glass. As for the circle on yours, I don't have that on mine.

Thanks for your reply. What I mean is most of the time when we buy camera or others that have an LCD, it usually come cover with a plastic and we would take it off before use.

I have both....it's a mystery to me as well....Guess they figure if you can afford the camera, you can afford to get a new LCD if it scratches....lol

D3, D300, 14-24 2.8, 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8VR
16 2.8 fisheye, 50 1.4, 85 1.4 105 2.8 Micro,
300 2.8VR, (4) SB 800's, SB-400, R1C1 close up kit, 1.7 TC

... they listened to criticism and improved the surface of the LCD by using tempered glass. To some the glass is half-full to others it's always half-empty I guess.

Thanks, Rich

Not to be unpleasant, but this was a big topic when the D3 came out and there was seemingly endless discussion about it and lots of posts, try a search and spend an hour or so of time you'll never get back to find out the lcd is supposed to be scratch resistant. For those of us with D2x's who lost our covers early on, this is not a big deal, to others this was a terrible sign of the end of the world and some even suggested they would not buy a D3 because of it.

Be Warned, lots of strong opinions about this!

How can try a search when the function is broken?

re: 'tempered glass'

how many of you will are not using the protective cover? I have one cover on my D3 now but will gladly peel it off if its REALLY scratch proof...i like it natural =)

I think the OP is talking about a flexible plastic sheet that peels off. Most electronics that have a display usually ship with a plastic sheet to protect the display.

I suspect the OP opened his D3 and the LCD did not have a plastic sheet on it. There appeared to be a blemish on the LCD and I think he is wondering whether he actually received a camera that someone else returned.

Temperd glass.
What does that mean.???

I think that my little D80 has tempered glass as well, but Nikon supplied a very nice plastic cover as well.

Isnt the ipod in trouble over scratches on their screen.

Tempered glass, I dont think that there is such a thing.

As for myself my cameras are 99% of the time on a tripod so it doesnt affect me - but i do feel sorry for any working photographer who has his cameras slung over his shoulder all the time, and cameras bashing into each other. (ive done all that)

Of course there is such a thing as tempered glass.

You are correct, but what i meant was that people use the word 'tempered' glass as if was the answer to everything.

For a street press photographer , with cameras bashing into each other, a cover might be a good idea.
