Kodak unveils new camera line-up at CES

FWIW - Kodak has some more specifics (and pics) on the new cams on their web site:

http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=12461&pq-locale=en_US

http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=12432&pq-locale=en_US

I chose the Z8612 and V1273 to post since these are the only truly "new" models. The rest are just modifications to existing models. These 2 do look kind of interesting. The 3 inch touchscreen is nice (I have it already on the Easyshare One - anybody remember that?) And from a purely geek/technology standpoint, they are pretty cool. MSRPs are not bad considering the features (and the street prices will be much lower anyway).

I just caught this regarding the video on the Z8612:

Shoot video with ease

Record continuous VGA video (640 × 480) at 15 fps with sound and on-camera editing
Video print options include 1, 4, 9 and 16-up prints
Save single frames and e-mail to family and friends

15 fps??? Camera phones take better video than that nowadays... Seems kinda lame.

The Z8612 has an interesting look, though I can't see the pop-up flash location.

"dual
image stabilization". what is that? optical and digital together?
isn't that kind of redundant?
Yes, and yes. It's a marketing gimmick
Not entirely true. The non-optical 'stabilisation' depends somewhat on the quality of the sensor at high ISO, but the intention is good: to compensate for subject motion as well as camera motion. Don't cameras with this try to detect subject motion?

Well, the V1273 gets shipped in 3 days, who's getting one? Finally giving the V series Optical Image stabilization and a sweet 3 inch touch screen! 12MP, OIS, Touch screen, HD Video! Will give review once I pick it up (hopefully this weekend)

Always wanted Optical IS on my V1253 as some shots come out blurry if your not steady with the Cam, looking forward to not having to be so careful. One handed shots here I come! :)

Good shooting!

I wouldn't say Sony's dslrs came "from nothing". What happened was when Konica-Minolta got out of the consumer camera business, they sold all their R&D to Sony. The current Sony dslrs are ones that Konica-Minolta had in the works at the time they turned things over to Sony. Many of the lenses are Minolta lenses with new nameplates.

It's a good partnership: Konica-Minolta's expertise in optics and camera design coupled with Sony's prowess in electronics, as well as their pocketbook.

Hi Pizz,

I am looking forward to your v1273 review.

I wonder why there is so little talk about the new Kodaks.

The v1073 looks very interesting as well... less megapixel per ccd size and all the features of the v1273... or am I missing something?

greetings
Stefan

The P series and the dual lens cameras were the best thing going with Kodak digicams in recent years.

Well, Kodak just pushed shipping date back to April 7th!ARRR!!!!

NO, just less MP, same CCD.

There's not that much talk about Kodaks new Cams because 99% of the Cam's there coming out with now are pretty much the same Cam's as last year with new designs with 1 more MP, some now have HD capability and they added a few, but nothing really changed!

V1273 for me is the exception, it's def the best Cam they have coming, and fixes the probs the V1253 had, plus gave it Optical Image Stailization (HUGE plus for me!). Touch Screen, OIS, HD video + Stills, Inhanced Color chip, etc! This Cam is a dream for me. I just wish Kodak would hurry and ship the thing already.

KODAK V1273

It's shipping now - be among the first!

My Orders IN!

... can´t wait to read your review - I hope you will get fast delivery.

By the way ... the V1073 seems to have even a larger ccd at 1/1,63 compared to the 1/1,72 of the V1273... so on paper the V1073 should be better in low light...

Interesting in the features it says it captures HD video at 30 fps,
and 640 x 480 at 15 fps. If it can do HD video at 30 fps, why
wouldn't it be able to handle lower resolution at the higher frame
rate? Maybe it's a misprint.
Not a misprint; it's marketing poop. In this case "HD" simply means 16x9 format. They also use "HD" when talking about still images, but only in the context of 16x9.

Frankly, I find this really irritating. HD should refer to resolution and "definition" not to the aspect ratio. But no; in the point & shoot world, HD means "16x9," which is stupid. It implies a 5 MP camera with a 16x9 sensor is HD while a 14MP camera with a 4:3 sensor is not. What a load of poo!

BTW, I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC LX2 that has a native 16x9 sensor (10 MP). In movie mode it can shoot 16x9, but I assure you it is NOT high definition; the movies look awful on my 46" Sharp Aquos.

UPDATE!!!

I checked the specs for that camera, and on the specs page it says 30 FPS for all resolutions, so what you're reading must be a misprint.

Second thing; my rant above is a bit off the mark. According to the specs, this camera can do video at 720p, which is, kinda sorta, on a bad day, "HD." But it's at the bottom end of what could really be considered HD.

My rant was provoked by the rest of the marketing material where they refer to "HD images" simply because they are 16:9.
