Anybody know what Mac is using as it's new 1TB HD option? They want $500 for one of these. Thinking of getting a couple to add on later, hopefully at a discount.

They have very few options for those Hitachi or Seagate would be my guess. As long as they are SATA ... any drive will work. I have Hitachi and Maxtor in my Mac, work just fine, I like the maxtor because one of my widgets can see the drive temp on the fly.

I just added three - 1TB Seagate Barracuda drives to my MacPro. At Newegg they cost about $325. each.

I just bought a Western Digital My Book Premium II (either 1 TB in Raid O or 500 Gig in Raid 1) for $320. I use it with firewire 800 in Raid 1 Mode. So far I love it. It is fast, and Raid 1 makes me feel better about saving my data when it is automatically backed up every time I save it. I read the reviews before I bought this drive. Some good and some bad. So far the only thing I can say is it runs great, wasn't expensive, and looks good sitting on my desk. When the fan kicks into high gear it does make quite a bit of noise, but it has only hit high speed twice in two weeks and both times I was writing more than 30 gigs of data.

I will probably buy another one of these in the not to distant future. Perhaps I will wait for a sale.
