Hi,

I'm using photoshop 5.0 LE that came with the G2.

Am I missing any useful features that are in the high end
Photoshop 6, 7 version?

Thanks

i've never used the light version. i had 5 i have 7.

the main differences that are new in 7:

the heal tool (remove wrinkles and stuff).
batch rename, and sort
they seemed to optimize the speed a little and memory.
you can now open more then 20 files at once
the brush sizes, even custom can be adjusted in size.

there's a bunch of new stuff.

pshop 6 - were web enhancements, buttons, maps, etc.
pshop 7 - they added stuff for the digital camera

Hi,

Photoshop 6 was criticised for having features that 5 should have had and that Adobe were playing catch-up to Paint Shop Pro and Dreamweavre amongst others.

Photoshop 7 has been, well, several reviews I have read have said that there is not much point upgrading from 6 to 7 but you may as well, for no other reason than just doing so, upgrade from 5 to 7.

The last two Photoshop releases, it could be argued, were really only for the die-hard graphic's fan who, although there are better and cheaper products on the market, still think that Adobe are the only people who make this kind of product - boy, you should have seen some of the tantrums that I have seen graphics' people have when you mention the possibility of not using Adobe.

In a professional environment go with Adobe: for a home user stick with 5 or look seriously at the features/price of Paint Shop Pro and Macromedia's Fireworks among many others out there.

Paint Shop Pro is probably the one to go with.

LE only has one undo level. Very very limiting. I have PS Elements and really love it. It sells for $79. but comes with a $30 mail in rebate which I have received. It's amazing how much of full PS is in Elements.

For me, there are two big things missing from LE and Elements. I want to change some of my G2 images to B&W, and the best method to do this is channel blending. Using this method, you can simulate B&W filters. The results are much closer to what you get with film. Also, there are some nifty third party actions available which require a full blown version of PS.

Other than that, either LE or Elements takes care of 90% of my needs. LE has curves, which is a very powerful way of improving images.

It's a shame I'll have to plunk down the dough for that other 10%.

Does anyone know if we can pay the upgrade price for 7.0 if we have photoshop 5.0 le?

Leezah,

From what I've read in other forums, the answer is no. At one time they were offering the LE upgrade for $299. Another time it was only $70 less than full price. I checked the Adobe web site a little while ago and they have removed both. If you can qualify for the academic upgrade, it's $280.

Leezah,

I called adobe. To upgrade from Photoshop 5.0 LE to Photoshop 7 the
cost is $499.

I had that idea as well.....

I'm playing with Photoshop Elements 30 day trial I downloaded from
adobe's website. It is pretty impressive for the price.

Well, I actually already have the full 6.0, so I guess I will just stick with that!

The answer is yes.
However, this information will not be posted anywhere.
Contact Adobe directly and you will be able to upgrade.
