Hello,

I'm interested in the Zeiss lenses. Has anybody an idea if Zeiss will be making lenses for EF mount in the near future (now there is the ZF, ZS and ZK mount)?

sadly, but it is not very likely, and there are also these in Contax N/N1
mount which can be converted to EF mount (with full AF, and body
controlled aperture) - highly recommended - this is closest you can get
in EOS compatibility and zeiss glass,

There is zero buzz about anything like this happening.

I just got the ZS mount (M42) 50mm and my test hooting indicates great promise at least as a landscape lens. Looking forward to my next photography trip. I'm using an AF-confirm adaptor bought off eBay.

The ZK is just K mount.

F, K, have the advantage that they started out full manual mounts. No ROMs so Zeiss can build such lenses without ROMs and have them be proper lenses that fully work on those cameras. No legal/moral/Public Image issues that come about from reverse engineering the ROMs.

The ZS, ZK, ZF line, and the ZM, ZV lines are all 100% manual no rom lenses.

EOS requires a rom for the lens to work. So it's a no go since Zeiss has no license for the ROM, and unlike other 3rd parties will not use a non licenses ROM (reverse engineered).

When they launched the lens line, they marketed the ZS line as being the answer for Canon users since they could use an adapter. Later they caught on that few would buy ZS lenses, instead they would buy ZF lenses and an adapter.

Zeiss could manufacture a lens with the EOS mount, and have no rom, but you would have to manually do everything. But why bother when you can get that exact same function from a ZF lens with adapter and be able to use it on both mounts.

If you want modern Zeiss glass for a camera, you need to buy a Sony Alpha.

cheers, have you got anything closer up as I'm thinking about getting one for portrait studio work

It's spelt Lens or Lenses for more than one

I got the lens for landscaping and my next trip isn't until May so I don't have much to show for it yet. I could ask the little woman if she'd sit still long enough for a shot or two although I do not have a studio setup. Are you thinking head shot, head/shoulders, full body?

I forgot to mention in earlier emails that the ZS (M42 mount) is intended for Canon shooters.

I kept the Zeiss.
I had a detailed look at both images, there are very-very close.

What is the price of the Zeiss? I would consider it only if it was a lot cheaper. Canon is applicable in a lot more situations.

Regards,

George
