Here are my first D300 shots for all to see...

I have only been shooting DSLR for 3 months (D40 & D300)

Any critique is always welcome (I have thick rhino skin)

Happy Holidays!

Just kidding. I like the one of the sandals. I also like the one of the field but it appears a bit overprocessed (maybe too much saturation?). The goose (?) on the water is also quite nice. The last shot would be a real keeper if you could lighten up that bird so it stands out more. The first two don't do much for me, FWIW.

Thanks! Honestly those pics were pure luck...I must have snapped 2000 pics to get these keepers =)

Thanks for the feedback....Im not sure how to lighten up the bird in the last shot (im a complete Photoshop newbie and I didn't shoot the photo's in RAW)

=)

Hi,

Great job - you have a good eye for light. My favourite is the sandals - reminds me of summer/holidays.

It may be my laptop screen, but the colour in the field shot looks too saturated to me - will be easy to adjust. Also, you might want tp try composing / cropping with the horizon not in the middle of the frame. Either top or bottom third usually looks better.

An easy way to start might be to use (judiciously) the shadows and highlights tool. Try playing around with it and see what happens. There are better ways to do it but they can be much more complicated.

Thanks for the feedback....

For some reason the colors on the field came out that way but I did have the saturation on the camera cranked up to the max (didn't work out so well on this photo) so I suppose the camera was doing what I told it to.

Thanks for taking the time to look & Happy holidays

I like these. Good eye for color and textures.

I had the color saturation in the camera cranked too high.....I will try to tone it down next time....

Thanks for your feedback

I can see you like what you are doing.

Most of your images are beautiful, but do not stop there, move forward...be the best.

Do you want to produce "quality images"?

Quality images are produced by people who understand light, shadow, composition, f-stop, shutter speed, and lens properties...educate yourself on all these things.

To understand why some image looks dull and lack of quality; you must understand this:

The perception of brightness is enhanced by the darker part in the image.
The perception of sharpness is enhanced by the OOF part in the image.

The perception of different graphically is enhanced by the different of curve line and straight line.

Photography is a language. It is WHAT you communicate to the viewers.

Composition is very important when you try to communicate. It is HOW you communicate. It is like how you explain your POV in picture, instead of words.

Good images are being created, not taken. You are creating picture, not taking picture. The moment you press that shutter button, it is the moment you record your creation.

Sounds confusing?

Keep taking lots and lots of pictures and look at them…do they make sense? If they do not make sense to you, they will never make sense to anyone.

Please be patient. It is the language. You will not be able to explain something to someone in foreign language overnight. You need to learn your new language before you can explain your POV to other people with this language.

Please keep this in mind: there are enough bad pictures in this world, you do not need to add more to pollute this earth…try to produce ONLY good pictures. This mentality will help you immensely before you press that shutter button to record you creation.

Just my thought,
Sharpie

The image was taken in Naples, FL. There were some statues by local artists being displayed along the marina so I snapped off a few shots. Lighting was bad to non existence. I don't think a flash was used. This image came out the way it did by pure mistake and lack of operator knowledge.

I sort of liked it though =)

Happy Holidays

I had the saturation settings on vivid + 3 saturation (obv. not the best idea)

Thanks for your opinions
