How many of the real ACDSee user have made the switch to Version 4 after the disappointment that we faced withthe initial release v4 ? I know SR1 is supposed to have sorted out alot of the problems, is it back to the speed of 3.1 and is it stable ?

I have dowloaded the ACDsee 4 and ThumbPlus for trial. I found that ACDSee4 loading up pictures faster than ThumbPlus. Do you guys think so?

My v4.0.1.0598 is not stable with XP. It is the only application that I have been able to crash on XP. However XP itself has yet to crash even one time! It is the best OS I have ever used in almost every way.

If I have to explain, your not gonna understand.

problem i find with acdsee v4 is that when it is open with photoshop the computer will randomly freeze. everything seems okay if i only have one or the other.

So far the only issue when v4 is sometimes it will GPF when resizing tif's.

ACDSee works great on Windows 2000 alongside Photoshop 6. It's a very useful and very fast way to view and organize photos. Love it!

I second what John wrote. ACDSee 4.01 works great under Windows 2000. I load it, Photoshop 6.0 and even Breeze Browser 1.5 at the same time and never have any problems. I have 512mb ram and an Athlon 600 processor so I'm not using one of these super computers alot of forum members have. Those programs all work great together on my Pentium III 800 laptop also running Windows 2000. This operating system is so good and so stable for what most of us do I don't know why more people aren't using it except the cost of buying it. I got lucky and paid $209 for a full version.

I use ACDSEE V4 and love it... and hate it! I still have some problems every once in a while (I have it on Windows ME & XP-pentium 4 2.0 ghz, 1gb memory). The contact sheets are not lableing with the file numbers from the camera and they are not as crisp as the contact sheets from the older version. However, I love the new editing capabilities (batch rotating, resizing, etc.) I am now used to ACDSEE crashing on me and almost expect it. I still use it though... do I have a choice?

Anybody know if they are updating the problems that they are having with V4?

We have not heard yet from those that were using 3.1 and have moved to 4... overall experience with special focus on speed & stability [comparison b/w 3.1 &4]

I never really had any problems with 3.1. However, 3.1 doesn't allow you to batch rotate and resize like V4. That's what I really like about V4. I would love to be able to have both loaded, but I don't think it's posible. Like I said before, the contact sheets from 3.1 are excellent. V4 are not too good. I have no idea why this is, but the difference is defenitely appearent. I purchased mine from Compusa instead of downloading it (I thought it would be better to have the cd, etc.) for the same price as online.

Basically, I prefer 3.1 for reliability and contact sheets, but V4 is defenitley more useful.

Oh, and the upsizing using B-SPLINE is excellent from what I have done. I recently did a few window displays 20x30 from a D30 JPG file that came out amaing. I tried Fred Miranda's SI as well as ACDSEE's using B-SPLINE resampling- excellent results (I upsized 400%). I was really impressed. ANd it was very fast!

Like I said in the above response, I think 3.1 is defenitley more stable, but 4 has more uses FOR ME. I suppose it would depend on what you use it for. If only using it for browsing and contact sheets, 3.1 is far better to me. However, V4 has many more functions. I'm hoping they will come up with some kind of fix for the problems with the latest version.

r u sure u can't have both loaded... i have heard of a few people that have both versions running on 2K i think... did u try ?

I would basically like the use the catalogue features... BTW you can batch rotate in 3.1 i use it everyday :)

Did u find 4.1 slower than 3.1 overall ?

I tried loading the program a few times with 3.1 installed and it said I must remove any installed versionof ACDSEE. I tried to install it anyway and it didn't work. Maybe there is a way... anybody out there know??

I didn't know that. Dooh!

Hard to see any big difference. I use a laptop and a very fast desktop, so I have no idea (never really noticed any difference- sometimes loading 100 files, sometimes I have 1,000 files from a shoot)

Are you debating about getting the new version?

I used 3.0 and 3.1 and loved them. Upgraded to 4.0 and hated it. Downloaded the interim upgrade 4.0.1? and it is better (as several users have said there are a couple of useful additional features) but I still prefer the 3.1 interface. Going backwards is a huge pain. I now use 4.0.1 on a Dell Pentium IV, 2.0 Ghz, running Windows XP and have had no stability problems.

On my desktop I upgraded from 3.1 to 4.0 and had problems. I installed the 4.0.1 upgrade and have no problems now. I really like it. It seems faster than 3.1 and has many more features. I have Windows 2K and have never had ACDSee lock up on me. I haven't upgraded my laptop yet with 4.0.1 so I can easily compare the two programs. The version 4.0.1 on my 600mhz desktop runs better than version 3.1 on my 800mhz Win2k laptop.

I take it you had to pay for the upgrade? I just purchased 4.0 recently. I didn't know they had 4.01. Where did you get the upgrade and is it suppose to solve all the problems with 4.0? I checked their website and I didn't see a 4.01 upgrade.
