ho ho ho LBA time

Hi Herman, i should be able to compare them as soon as the 40 arrives but the 43 is a fantastic lens that i like even more than my 50's.
I was considering DA 40 before I got the FA43. But some friends in
this forum are more toward FA43. So, have you ever compared this two
personally?

Thanks and Merry Xmas.

maybe one you get the 40 you could get a manual 50/4 macro ... they are very well priced.
then again... the 21 limited would be nice as would the 31 and 77 .....
Update on the lens fund...

I am now up to $350--$300 cash and a $50 Visa gift card. My sister
doesn't come until tomorrow afternoon or evening, so all is not said
and done yet.

At this point, the DA40 would be my first choice. I've got a bid on a
slightly used one on eBay that doesn't come down until tomorrow
night. I'd rather go that route then buy one new and deal with
waiting on the rebate. KEH has the 35/2 rated in excellent condition
for $254.

While I was messing around on KEH, I also noticed that they had a
Sigma 50/2.8 EX DG for $199 and the Sigma 50/2.8 EX for $172. I know
I definitely want to get a 50mm to replace the manual 50/2 that I now
have. I had been leaning heavily towards the DA50/1.4 until I saw
those deals. I definitely would like the macro feature, but both
Sigmas are a little slower than the 50/1.4.

Question--Would I be better off buying one of the Sigmas (if so,
which one?), despite the fact that they're a little slower, or would
I be better off getting the 50/1.4 and later adding a teleconverter
for my macro-type pics? I really don't do anything in the way of
formal portraits, so other than macro pics of plants, the only other
thing I would use this lens for would be informal portraits and
snapshots in lower light.

Whichever one I get, the 50mm is second on my lens-buying priority
list. If I get both at the same time, I'll have to supplement the
Christmas money with my own, which is OK--I'm still getting a great
deal for very little out of my own pocket. :)

Thanks!

that was the main thought in getting the 40 ... its small size on the K100D should be easy to cart around.
You'll just love the DA40. I originally bought it so that I could
pair it with my DL as a small street photo shooter. However, it was
so nice and compact and sharp that I couldn't get it off the K10D
until the DA* 16-50mm arrived. :-D

BTW, the DA* zooms are finally in stock and available in quantities
where the prices are what they should have been last year. The DA*
50-135mm prices are looking so much more tempting.

Lovely shots of your soap dispenser and toothpaste! You'll be framing
those, surely!

I finally made up my mind and decided to go with the 43 over the 40. It isn't that much bigger plus I can use it on both my digital and film bodies. The $100 rebate is also a plus. :)

As for the macro lens, I'm going to wait until I can afford something that I'll really like (perhaps the Tamron 90). In the meantime, I'll get a reversing ring and use my 50/2 with it.

At this point, the macro and the DA21 are the lenses left to get before I would consider my kit complete. Since I've got a screwmount adapter on the way, I'm sure that I'll pick up a lens here or there, if I can get a good deal on it.

If anybody else is also interested in getting the 43, Beach Camera has the best deal on it that I've been able to find--$449 + free shipping. Combine it with the rebate, and you have a really good dea.l. :) I know I'm looking forward to getting mine and seeing what I can do with it.

Hi Herman,

Your shots ARE much more attractive than the standard brick wall or newspaper :-)

Regarding the pixelpeeping properties I can see clearly, even on these non 100% crops, that the text below DAD is much better defined on the 43 toothpaste shot.

What surprised me on the first shot is that the 43 has much more DOF although it is only 7 mm wider...

The 43 is really a nice lens, thanks for the testing efforts. Hope to see many nice shots in the future!

Such a sexy little lens. That's it, I want back in. I love my Nikon, but I crave a Pentax and it's three little pancakes. And YES, it WOULD make me a better photographer!!! ;)
