According to the info on the European website among the improvements is "The picture sharpness is better under low contrast conditions." I hope this is true. My only complaint with my 700 has been exactly that, under low contrast conditions the pictures seem unsharp. I thought it might be my technique since most of my low contrast photos are of birds in low light conditions as well. I'll wait till after I return from a trip to update when the update should be on the north american websites.

That is listed as an improvement over Ver 1. If you have already upgraded to Ver 2, you should already have that.

Not to you man, but to the original poster of : 'I hope this is real we need another firmware update'.

I don't own a700 but I find it hard to believe ppl saying about problem but not able to show the proof. The least he can do is show the pict noise and we can discuss on why it happen. So far I think a700 is spot on and I will surely upgrade my 5D when the time come. Waiting for a100 upgrade to see which one I like most. I can't afford both

Strange thing is, there is no notice of it on the Alpha Japan site yet, but it is there. I downloaded it and installed already.

Improvements and solved issues

Improvements over Firmware “Ver.1”:

• The picture sharpness is better under low contrast conditions.
• Noise is reduced when working at high sensitivity ISO setting.
• The flash control is better at close range with a non-ADI control lens.

Improvements over Firmware “Ver.2”:

• When pictures are taken rapidly, the access lamp may stay lit and the system may become inoperable.
• When turning off the camera when the "MR" mode is selected, some settings registered in the MR mode can be reflected in other shooting modes.
