Aarsee:

I have learned from this forum SO much, I thank everybody ! No, I have not posted my images yet, but I am gratefully appreciative to be able to see and listen.

PLEASE: What do you mean with: " Part time Lurkers ! ~ and Pass Through People !" ~ on this forum ?? (vs. Census joining) ...

A bit offended I seem to be, by not being a " member" of regular postings, however time permitting, I tune in as often into my favorite bookmark of DP reviews KM, as I can !

My best regards,
Kydra

Kydra,
Good question!

To become a member to the KMslr forum is easy.
(But first you must learn the secret handshake.) Just joking!

The reference to "part time lurkers" and "pass through people"
is to all of the people who "look" at the forum, but never post anything,
for what ever the reason. It is difficult to estimate how many people
are out "looking" at the forum, by the posting volume on the forum.

It was also a veiled attempt to get some of the "lookers" to become
more active and become "posters". Either regularly, or once and a while.

It is not meant to be a put down of someone who is just looking
and passing by, but rather a call out to them to stop and comment,
and get involved. It is important to keep the small audience here
at KMslr involved, otherwise, this forum may be shut down or combined,
or dissolved, disbanded, etc.

As for being an "official" member of the forum,
that is real easy.

Raise your right hand.

Go ahead, we'll wait.

1. Repeat these secret words. (best to do this part when no one else is around)

2. I, (your name here), do soleumly swear to post and participte
in the KMslr forum, to the best of my ability.

I will post my photos, and comment on other people's post as often as I feel like it.

So help me, (fill in your deity here).

3. I will go to the Forum Census thread, and put my name,
at the bottom of the list, and post it. (this part is optional)

That's it!
You are IN, and with it you will receive all of the full benefits
that forum membership has to offer.

Sit back and relax in the peace and joy
that comes with being
part of the FEW, the proud, a KMslr forum member!

Now really,
Please go sign up on the forum census.
We need all the help we can get.
Oh, and post something too! :-)

I'm not one to sugar coat or pussy-foot around.

It's simply a matter of give and take.... life is about give and take... Some people come here and take, some people come here to give alittle and take alittle. Some of us Give alot. We call Lurkers lurkers, because it is not a term of endearment. It takes a lot of work and effort by the givers to keep this forum going. Some people come here to reap the knowledge and never consider giving anything back. Giving back??? its easy, just a comment on someone's photos. "That's real nice, thanks for sharing" etc> .....

This forum was going down fast, without the efforts of a few of us to take a stand.... none of us knew there were so many lurkers here. Over the last few weeks, a hand full of us started to pump up this forum with content. The same 20 people keep posting here, and at this point there are over 100 people who come here and just take. Yes this is a bit negative in its content... we have always tried to make this a fun and non hostile environment. in the face of the other A mount forum, the 20 or 25 of us are holding our own here on this forum... I can understand anyone who comes here and English is not their first language, but people who live in an English speaking country should try to give alittle back, even if it is in the form of a thank you. People who just pass through and see nothing that might interest them today and go elsewhere, and then come here and find something that really interests them, and they take that from here without even leaving a deposit at the door. Sure there is nothing wrong

with coming here and taking, but once in a while it would be nice to leave something... As I look at the profiles and the past post of some of the lurkers here, many have rarely made a deposit in this forum.

I'm not a meanie, just calling it like it is... I'M sure some will take offense, but I didn't make up the word lurker.

Grand Poobah, I forgot the secret handshake, can you e-mail it to me
so I can get back posting or come shovel my driveway, that would be
better.
Sorry,
Can't help you with the drive.
I just spent the better part of 2 hours clearing mine.
Snow blow it out, wind blows it back. Repeat!

As for the "secret" handshake,

You will have to talk with Brittany! :-p

She's the one who showed it to me! Yeah, I WISH ! ;-)

No problem,
at our next scheduled meeting we will be
going over the "secret" stuff.

Stuff, like
Who's paying for the beer?
Where did I leave my reading glasses.
Why is there always one sock left in the dryer?

CC,
Can I count on your to once again
bring the "Chaser Girls" to pass around refreshments
and to collect the membership dues?

Until our next bored meeting.

Bill,

Or should I say "brother" Bill, EvilOne,

I would like to nominate you for "Sargent @ Arms"
of our membership.

We can use someone with leadership to help steer this forum
in the right direction. I like your stern tone and your
take no prisoners attitude.

I know we have called upon you already to teach the
Computer Literacy Course, from the census thread,
but if you would take on these added duties, it would be great.

We already have CC, signed on as Senior Member Potentate,
in charge of a historical artifacts.

Looks like we might have digitalshooter, to sign on as,
"Chief Executive in Charge of Adult Beverages".

And a few other have expressed interest in working closely
with Brittany, our "Membership Rush Chairperson".

It goes without saying, that if you accept the position,
of Sargent @ Arms, you would be required to work
closely with Brittany, also! ;-)

Please think it over,
and let me know at our next scheduled meeting.

Kydra,

You are just now peeking, more than ever, into our little world, (our little world also means your little world).

I would like you to feel very comfortable here, post photo's here, ask questions here and make suggestions here.

Occasionally things occur that raise the blood pressure a bit but you have the option to intercede or ignore the post entirely.
Welcome! Please don't just Lurk, but you can if you want to. ;-)

--Kydra, you asked for the explanation, if you take the explanation personally, I am sorry, but that's the explanation of a lurker. No one has to post here on a regular basis. I said once in a while would be nice. In fact I suggest to newbies ( new to this forum ) that they read and get comfortable with the protocol here, gather your thoughts and questions, check out the search engine for your question, chances are the question has been answered hundreds of times.. Just saying hello is good enough once in a while and of course questions are always welcome... to many newbies, posting a picture is a difficult thing, Many people, as we have seen in the census thread, are computer challenged, even in cut and paste and posting their name in a running thread... I know this can be difficult for many, but help is right at your fingertips with only a request for help. This is a close community forum, the regulars here are like brothers and sisters, and always looking for new friends. Also some of us are alot less too the point and more interested in not ruffling any feathers, I on the other hand balance out all that love and sensitivity with some honest evilness ] : ) We would love to see a photo Kydra, if and when you feel comfy here. There is always someone here to help you with your enjoyment of photography. There are enough Old people here who can also offer some help in other areas because they have been there. We are friendly, honest... well most of us anyway ] :(

Gentlemen,

thank you for making the time explaining the forum to me. You not only have great talents but also terrific senses of Humor !

Unfortunately I am at a Kindergarten-level of hi-tech and would not know how to begin posting a picture ~ although I would love to.

Thanks for keeping the KM/SLR site alive.

With best regards, Kydra.

when you feel like you want to learn how to post a picture, let me know and I will teach you... I will call you on the phone and hang out with you until you get it, or until you at least grasp the concept of posting on line

Its too difficult to text back and forth.... just trying to gage your level of technical ability by texting can be difficult. The one thing a phone call will do it insure your understanding without getting frustrated, or take you to a point where you have had enough for one day.

Sister Kydra,
I'm glad you feel welcome and are now an "official" member.

You took the oath, right?

Good.

Now about having Kindergarten-level computer knowledge.
You have a better computer knowledge than about half of us here,
and that hasn't stopped us from posting!

So find a good shot you like and post.

If you have specific questions about getting the picture
on the forum, ask away. If we can figure it out, anyone can.

But you don't have to post pictures to be involved.
Comments, hints and praise are also worthy additions.

And now I will go check the forum census
to see if you are there. :-)

I've been meaning to ask you,
do you want to be a part of the
"Executive Bored" of the KMslr forum?

So far we have a few signed up.

We already have CC, signed on as Senior Member Potentate,
in charge of a historical artifacts.

Looks like we might have digitalshooter, to sign on as,
"Chief Executive in Charge of Adult Beverages".
If we can get him pass the Wild Turkey.

Brittany, is our honorary "Membership Rush Chairperson".

And possibly "brother" Bill, EvilOne, "Sargent @ Arms"

I know we can find a position that would be perfect
on the "bored". So let me know if you are interested.

Perhaps, "Wildlife Preservation Executive" specializing
in Sasquatch sighting & forest reclamation.

It's still an available position, and perks include the
use of a scooter every other Tuesday! (just to sweeten the deal)

Regards,

"brother" Rick

You Fellows are Funny !, ...as I am side-tracking instead of getting my home made season greeting cards ready, printing all those pictures for them.

Those Epson cartridges sure don't last long, they seem always 1/4th still full when the red light indicates that cartridge is empty. Though I love the quality of the color.

Good night,
Kydra
