My "one in a million" photo (img)-- show yours?

Here's my picture of a wave that I took with my Olympus E-510 next to Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach, Oregon a few weeks back. I have another one that is larger and more explosive, but it was taken with my Kodak camera on the same day...but it was so large that I didn't get the top of the crashing wave...but it still looked good.

I've just had my Olympus E-510 for a couple of months...eventually I'd like to take more pictures with it at the coast, as you had done. Your picture is impressive...yes, a million to one. It's going to take me many more photos...until I get one like that yet...well, maybe. :)

Olympus E-510

One photo I posted here recently, was nearly a million to one...but I didn't get any response. I was taking pictures at the Santa Parade last week, in downtown Portland, and a woman stepped in the way with her camera and blocked my view. So, without changing any settings or looking through the viewfinder on the E-510 (with the Zuiko 70-300mm lens), I held the shutter down half-way for a second or so (to make sure that it was in focus), and then clicked it all the way. I got very lucky and it was framed perfectly, showing the point & shoot camera at the top of the frame on the left, and capturing all of her face on the right. It was not cropped either, even though it might look that way. After taking tens of thousands of pictures, this was the closest candid people photo by far, that I'd ever done...it was pure luck...being at the right place at the right time.

Here's one from the E1, a while back.

Oh, the "one in a million"? Well, that's the lady viewing the Mediterranean sunrise.

David; this is super-- exceptional, and as someone elese said "serandipitous"-- I love when that happens. Thanks for posting.

Cheers. Craig

Certainly one of the most humorous I've seen here-- excellent "seeing", and thanks for posting.

Digirame; that IS and outstanding wave shot-- I absolutely love these, and have few or none that would equal this-- hang it on a wall!

Mike; nice sunset, but of course that's not your message. That's a special way of looking at it and a dose of "healthy perspective.

Thanks to all for posting pics and comments-- I've been really enjoying this!

Cheers, and Happy Holidays to all.

Hi Jenny

The long horse for the long ride? Wonderful.

This could almost be outback Australia.

Happened upon this scene in lower Manhattan....fountain...near Circle Line to Statue of Liberty last summer. Used an E1 & 50-200. Turned into BW in CS2.
Either on A or P. Thanks for kind words.

Craig - that B&W really rocks - the opposing diagonals, the sense of
scale and the lighting - mmmmph!

I was up at Lake Superior and got up one morning at 3:30 (that's am)
and with a flashlight and tripod hiked about an hour up Oberg
mountain. It was one of the most amazing natural sights I think I
have ever witnessed. The fog was out over Lake Superior and as the
sun rose the fog moved inland from the lake. It looked just like one
of those shows where the army is stealthily advancing. As the sun
was so low and the tree tops wer just poking over the fog it really
created quite a panorama:
Very, very impressive image.

These are the 3 shots that I'm most proud of...

The first was very lucky. I was just about to take the sunrise when the floodlights came on to light the foreground:

The second was simply a case of a stunning subject which I hope my capture does justice to:

..And the last was taken very hastily just as the pack started to run:

I'm still looking at the Oly and Pany models for Xmas, so I thought that I'd join this thread. I don't know if it's one to a million, but this recent photo taken in the mystical

town of Feng Huang in southwestern China is one I'm proud of. The sun was just over the hills. Unfortunately, it's taken with a Pentax K10D and one of their legendary 50mms. Thanks for looking. Don
