I CAN'T believe this !

I just recieved yet ANOTHER email from Dell today telling me that I have to notify them (yet again) if I want to keep my S200 order active, and that unless I do, that my order would be canceled.

I originally placed my order back on 3/31 and it was only a week ago that I received a similar email from them and had to CALL them (and wait on hold forever ) just to let them know that I wanted to keep my order active. Will Dell keep delaying my order and continue to repeatedly make me call them (weekly) just to keep my order active? Here's the email I just received from Dell today:

"We have reviewed your order #xxxxxxxx, and although we had anticipated being able to ship your order sooner, we are experiencing an unexpected delay and we will not be able to ship your order until 5/10/02. We need your consent to continue your order. Please be aware that unless we receive your consent by 04/28/02, we are required by law to cancel your order and provide you with a prompt refund."

I just got off the phone with Dell, after yet another LONG LONG hold time waiting with the rep to check my order status on their system and updating it to keep my order active (yet again).

I'm wondering if it's worth all this hassle just to get the S200 for $289.

Join the club bro. Just got my weekly notice from Dell too. I'm considering cancelling my order with Dell and buying an S30 instead (they're below $400 nowadays).

Good Luck.

Same here Scotty, except I haven't called Dell yet. I give myself a 50% chance I'll just drop the order, and shop somewhere else. And yes, the S30 is all of a sudden looking more attractive, even with its size.

I wish I just had kept my S110v at this point.

Real dealers have received their cameras! We got ours today. Would you buy a computer from a camera store? So why buy a camera from a computer store? Dell isn't a Canon dealer. They normally buy their cameras from a middleman wholesaler, which means that yes they may be cheaper, but usually the direct dealers get better service.

Yes, I too have been considering going with the S30 (after seeing the chromatic abberation on the S200/S330), but because I already own the G2 and was now just looking for an ULTRA small compact camera, the S30 may not be significantly small enough. To me, the ONLY alternative (at this time) to the S200 (sizewise) is the Kyocera fincam S4 or S3x.

Raist (or others). Do any of you see any chromatic abberations in any of the sample pics of the S4 shown on Steve's Digicam website?
http://www.steves-digicams.com/2002_reviews/s4_samples.html

I realize that the S4's pics may not appear quite as sharp or saturated (punchy) as the S330/S200, but can't that be easily adjusted for in a camera setting or in Photoshop? I'd think chromatic abberations would be more difficult to remove later. The other appealing factor with the S4 is that you get 3x zoom in the small form factor of the S200/S100 body size and 4 megapixels (for blowing up to 8x10 or cropping) if needed. I ONLY wished that Phil Askey would review the S4 soon to find out if the S4 really has been substantially improved over the S3, as Kyocera claims. Also interesting to note that Dpreview doesn't have the S4 listed in the camera section even though both the S4 & S3x are now apparently available.

Folks - I guess we should start another forum here for those that have been screwed over time and time again by Dell.

Wouldn't ya think after reading all the horror stories here about how screwed up Dell Accessories deliveries is and how lame their "customer service" group is we should all know better?

Warn all your friends, family, aquaintances, co-workers, and fellow forum members that to deal with Dell is like dealing with the DEVIL!!!

Spend your hard earned ca$h at a real camera store - hell I'd even go to Best Buy - I hear they got G2's for $650!

Best of luck with your camera purchase.

**** F.

PS - I know who ain't getting a Dell!

I don't understand why you are saying that people have been screwed over by Dell. Some people ordered at a time when the cameras were out of stock. They ordered knowing that the cameras were not in stock but getting a very good deal price wise. Obviously Dell has not received the number of cameras they need so they have not been able to ship. When Dell received their S330's they started delivery immediately. I'm sure the same will happen with the S200's.

I had an option to order from Dell, knowing they were out of stock, or choosing another vendor who had the camera I wanted in stock. I ordered from the vendor who had the camera in my hands 48 hours after I placed my order. For that convenience I paid a higher price for the camera. But that was my choice. Others have had the same choice. I'm sure Dell would love to take their customers' money. They don't charge till they are ready to ship, or have they changed that policy?

Scott - do you know how much is the Kyocera and where (US) to get it?

I was thinking that the Kyocera pictures didn't look all that sharp, but then it seems that the S200 pictures posted around do not look all that sharp to me either. Makes me wonder if with the higher quality setting the S200 will look more detailed (it should I hope), because I see a lot of very annoying blooming in all whites
