PREDICTION: A new 1DMKIII may be announced...

I dont think there will be a new replacement for the 1DMKIII but if you think it might happen what do you think Canon would change?? FF sensor? higher rez LCD? bigger buffer? Canon hasnt had time to make it lower noise wise unless they add bluring noise reduction. So what would it be?

I always wanted the 1DMKIII to have a FF sensor at 16 megs and that would be the same as the current 1DMKIII sensor just at FF in size. But the frame rate would have to slow down to at least 8 fps with the extra data.

I think the next 5D will have exactly that for a sensor but in a 40D body basicly.

...further help this feeling I am starting to get and that a few "panic stricken" users(?) are clouding with their rampant hysteria (...a bit like the "Tree" and the "Forrest" thing, you know, and how one can block the other...).

The way I see it, when this all finally settles down I'll be the owner of one of the following:

a) An excellent camera that was spec designed, built, inspected, tweaked and adjusted at a personal, dedicated level in a way I could never have dreamed of.

b) A new, better "next-in-the-series" 1D body, from a previous, excellent 95%+ functioning one, at a discount I would never dare to expect.

c) A full refund for my hard-earned sadly-parted money, by provision of the well laid out consumer laws in my country and my own precautionary approach on the subject.

How do I know this?

You should have been present in the little conversation I had with the Head representative for Technical Services last Monday and see his apologetic and cooperative attitude about the subject.

It was like having a "peek" inside that huge corporation for 15 minutes and, I tell you, they know they're "grabbed by the b* s" and have little maneuvering area on this one.

Believe me, if you play your cards right, only wonderful things can come out of this.

My take...

Well, according to Canon's Museum Website, the 1D mkII was introduced
in November of 2004, the 1D mkIIn was introduced in October of 2005.

All I can do is call it like they tell it...
They're wrong. It's easy to see the real date of introduction. Look at Phil's news page for the camera.

1DMkII Jan 29 04
1DMkIIn Aug 22 05

The 1DMKII had a rush on it because Canon had to get it out of the gate before the Summer Olympics in Athens. So it was being sold before the summer Olympics.

One would certainly expect Canon to know when their own cameras were introduced...

I have no idea how they are to take them selves out of the mess they created for themselves, but unless they replace all 1d3 for free with a new modell, I doubt anyone would be interesting in throwing more money at canon...

from what I hear it is no different from the 1d3...

But sure, another 5k, who cares ;)

However, in the sensitivity department, and based on Nikon's latest
lessons of "now you see it, now you don't" Noise-Reduction marketing,
all that Canon needs to do is to turn-up the on-board Noise-Reduction
"knob", and red-line those twin-DiGiCs. That will take the 1D3(with
very little effort) to ISO6400 and even beyond, depending on how far
you can crank-up that knob.
This would be huge for the JPEG crowd (provided, of course, that we don't lose any write speed or shot buffer capacity). Hopefully, it would be retrofittable to our current Mk III bodies. :-)

...which I interpret as the successor of the current 1DIII/1DsIII.

I think we can assume that will be a quite well tested model, Canon
would not want to be in the same situation again.
Well, my last post was meant as some sort of stupid joke, but now I am serious again. I assumed that this generation of canon cameras would've been well tested. I see no reason why they should improve as they must be quite aware of the implications of releasing non-functional products, even without angry posts at Internet forums.
