My wife and I have a new 707 and know Zero, Zippo, Zilch about photo editing or touch up. Other than how to change a color photo to grayscale and how to do Image, resize. Which would be better and or easier for the basic beginner to learn and use. Photo shop or Paint shop ??

Or is there and easier program? Does photo shop LE 4.0 get rid of redy eye? We could not find a way to?

Thanks

All the programs (Photoshop Elements, PictureWindow, PhotoBrush, PaintshopPro, PhotoImpact) have free 30 day trials. I tried them all (sometimes even side-by-side) and decided on Elements. You should try them and see what you like best. PhotoBrush is at mediachance.com; photoimpact is ulead.com. I can't remember the site for Picture Window.

Based on the experience level you describe, I recomment Photoshop Elements. Will do everything you're likely to ever want to do and, if you ever decide to go for the Mother Lode (Photoshop 7), you'll be familiar with the interface. Handles red-eye removal real well with a special tool.

I tried PSE on the 30 day trial and had decided to buy it when I got a chance to buy PS 6.0 rather inexpensively (so I did...)! I agree with the post recommending that you try them all via a free trial and see which one you like best.

Sure can't hurt!

Good Luck with your decision!

I'm a novice myself. I just received PS7 and I am lost. It is going to take me awhile to figure out how to do all the amazing things that I've seen done with it.

I've got PSP7 and PS5. I find PSP7 much easier and more intuitive to use. It does most of what PS does and also accepts PS plugin filters. Its also about a fifth of the price. I only use PS for things PSP can't do like perspective shifting or quadtoning.

You can fix perspective in Paint Shop Pro 7...but it's a heck of a lot easier to use in Photoshop! PSP 7 is still my favorite editing program...there are just some things that, believe it or not, are EASIER to do with Photoshop.

Yes you can do quadtones, tritones and duotones in PSP7 as well but again its a lot easier in PS.

Congratulations! I've been using Photoshop for about 2 years. In the beginning, I was totally confused. I purchased a couple of tutorial books and spent lots of hours experimenting. I also asked questiions on this forum and others when I was stumped. While far from an expert, I can "hold my own" in most situations. I believe you made the right move in opting to buy PS7 first. Once you get the hang of it, you'll never look back. Good luck!
