s330 and video mode distortions

I have had my s330 for about 2 weeks from Dell.

I soon noticed that the LCD had a semi-transperant horizontal line in it about 1/3 from the top of the screen.

At first, I thought, a poor quality LCD, ... no problem, I'll see if it keeps up.

So after some heavy usage with the s330 last weekend, I noticed that the line does not appear when I view the pictures in review mode. In fact, the line sometimes moves as the metering calibrates (when I point the camera at one object, then quickly move to another.)

After some testing, it appears that the line moves to just over the 3 metering boxes to just under them depending upon lighting conditions, sometimes it is more than one semi-transperant line.
Further observation revealed it appears in all shooting modes other than review.
So I concluded, it is NOT the LCD, like I earlier believed.

Actual still images under Zoom on the PC do not show the line. In fact,it disappears from the LCD just before the image is taken.

I have changed almost all settings: Zoom, DigZoom, AF lamp, ISO, WB and special mode, etc, still it persists.

However, all Movie modes do show the line, in the camera playback and on the PC.

IS the CCD bad?

Because it's not in the finished pic's but it shows up big time in every movies I have shot.

Is this a defect? Does anyone else's s330 show this? Did any s300 show this? Should I send it back for a new one?

Thanks, Rob

Hi Rob. Thanks for testing my issue on the viewfinder.

Re the LCD line, I noticed that too, in medium/low light. It goes away in strong light. I assume the CCD just isn't sensitive enough in such light to give good real time moving pictures (or movies). I only like movies shot in sunlight.

My S330 LCD does not have that line that you see. My LCD appears to be off-center, with a straight solid white line on the very top of the screen, a straight solid black line on the very left of the screen and a very annoying dead spot in the middle of the lower right quadrant, if you picture an imaginary line down and another across the middle of the screen. There is no change in any mode. I should have a replacement tomorrow, so I'm curious how that one will be. Overall I find this LCD very poor compared to my Olympus C3000Z and an Olympus D450 that I had.

I have no problems with actual images as seen on monitor, no hot pixels. I haven't recorded enough movies to be able to tell how that is but wasn't planning on using the movie mode anyway. Overall I am very satisfied with the camera with the exception of the LCD screen.

i have 2 lines visible..but only one is really visible. it does go away when the room is lit up well.. when dim its visible...which doesnt bother me much coz the video is already horribly poor in lowlight, the line adds a little to its horribleness =)

My S110 shows this line in movies in low light. Interesting.

I'd think about taking that one back. I can see a white line at the top of my S110's LCD, but it is way up under the edge of the metal.

Thanks to all who replied.
I am still not real comfortable with this happening.

Does anyone think I should ask for a replacement?

I don't think replacement hassles is worth it, even newer one might have same thing. After all the movie mode is just a marketing gimmick, not of much use.
