I think my beloved A1 just died :(

I have had this thing for years and just love it. This morning I went to use it and the display is showing some weird purple wavy lines that look like a special effects acid trip in a bad 70s movie. Pictures are the same way.

I have let it set for a half hour or so with the batteries removed, but no luck, tried a different battery... no luck.

Is repair still available on this cam? Should I just replace it with another cam?

I primarily used it on vacations offroading and it took lots of vibration and shock. During the last trip I took it on a couple of months ago we actually rolled the vehicle I was in :)

Here's the number; 1-877-462-4464.. Have the camera with you and tell them symptoms. You might be covered under their recall program, and they will fix it for FREE!!

Wow!

Getting a 5yr old cam fixed for free is more than I expected.
Even sending me a prepaid shipping label!

I am pretty amazed that even after the company gets handed off to Sony they still cover it. I haven't been watching the new cams to much and didn't even realize Minolta is out of the camera business, kinda sad.

Thanks.

The recall was due to a faulty sensor, that was made by Sony.. Don't get too excited until they have had a chance to check it out.. Good Luck!!!

If recent reports from other users are anything to go by, there is every chance your camera will be repaired very nicely, and returned to you before too long.

Now, whilst it would have been better if the sensor had not failed at all, Sony have earned a good deal of kudos and good will by their effective action over the matter of these failed sensors.

I hope you have a similarly happy outcome. :-)

Got my cam back. Works great, is cleaned up, and they even put a new
eyecup on it (my previous one had come unglued and lost).
Glad to hear it.... contributing to a Happy Christmas for you, eh? ;-)
(Now .. are you going out to shoot the snow.. ??)

Glad it all worked out. Here in the UK Johnsons Photopia are handling the repairs - and very competently too! I'd love to know if the new sensor is exactly** the same as the original or perhaps improved in some way.

Incidentally, my rubber eye cup had also come unglued. JP made a re-glue attempt which lasted for one outing, had to scrape off what they'd applied and reach for the SuperGlue!
