Mt Baker Sunset Pano (BIG - real BIG)

A lovely shot indeed, well done.

I summitted Baker when I was a kid; worst sunburn of my life but a fond memory nevertheless!

Lobby,

If you have Photoshop CS3, you can give it a try. The photomerge option is very nice and easy.

Here is one of mine. In a different type of setting. I this it with E-500 + 14-54 + CP.

I haven't seen better views of Baker than from some of the big houses on the south side of Sumas Mountain in Abbotsford. They're high enough up to be able to see quite a vista spreading out at the foot of the mountain. Your picture, obviously, captured a very nice view. I thought for sure when I saw it that you had taken it from Mill Lake in Abbotsford. How can you tell where I'm used to seeing Baker from?! But I live in Vancouver now, and if Mt. Baker is visible at all, it's much less grand looking.

That image on your website fromUpper Antelope Canyon in Page Az is on my must do list. There are many spectacular images in that part of Az.

Thanks for looking.

here's another angle taken from my buddies house in Saanich on Vancouver Island. From this position, I would be due west and a bit south 150km as the crow flies. Mt Baker stands 10,800 ft high.

This sunrise was taken in October 2004 with a Oly C5050.

It was around 5 pm. The EXIF was stripped out by Autostitch:
ISO200 - F6.3 - 1/60th - 158mm

Don't know why I used ISO200 - it was shot on a tripod.

Thanks for looking.

I'm going to do a bit more research. Autostitch is a pretty easy program even though I don't understand the fine tuning aspects and the info provided is sketchy. The big problem is it will only render a 72dpi jpeg. I'd like to develop the ORF's and assemble TIFFs for pp & printing.

I checked your gallery, looks like PtGui did a good rendering job.

this location is easy to find - just exit I-5 on Guide Meridian Road (right at Bellis Fair Mall - just follow the BC plates - lol). It's about 8 miles north. I believe this is called Wiser Lake.

Thanks for your kind comments and thanks for looking.

I have CS2 and might give that a try. Past attempts with earlier version of PS were not that good. Don't think I tried since I upgraded.

I really like the way you handled the clouds in that pano - nicely done.

Thanks for looking.

I live in Tsawwassen and we get good views from Boundary Bay, but not quite enough elevation for that dramatic effect. I have a business down on the Sumas Flats and there are several good vantage points in Abbotsford but I feel that it is almost too close and the scale of the mountain begins to deminish. I have been up Sumas mountain and into the new development by Clayburn and same feeling. I drive 0 Ave a lot and the best views are up by 200th St but there are no clear sightlines (maybe on the US side). The Mt Lehman Road overpass at Hwy #1 has a good sightline as well.

One spot we have scouted, but it is way out of the way for me, is the Hayward Dam on the Stave River. It has a very clear sightline from the dam and good elevation (but right now it is under major reconstruction).

Thanks for looking.

Awesome pic!

If you like using autostitch, perhaps you want to move up to autopano pro ( http://www.autopano.net )? The makers licensed the autostitch algorithms for use, and it works pretty well. I'm not sure if it handles raw files, but I know it can output to .psd for the stitched pano to be edited in photoshop.
