I uploaded some sample files shot by D3.

[Noise test at evening]
http://blog.koss.jp/category_digitalcamera/1/article_595.html

High ISO Noise Reduction was off. But NR works over ISO6400 automatically.
Aperture Priority AE.
JPEGs are processed by D3 without any change. No retouch.
NEFs are Loss less compressed RAW 14bit.
Please see more info from EXIF.

NEF's File size is about 15Mbytes each. Be careful about your Internet bandwidth when you download them.

I added NEF file each. Please enjoy them before you’ll get your own. And I hope they will be a little helps.

Koss.

WOW. The image quality is incredible. I got the 200, 3200 and the 25600 images and loaded them in NX. The lack of noise in the 3200 one is incredible.

If you were to zoom in on the food court window it would be very easy to recognize someone in there.

That lens looks like a keeper too. I may have to look into that one.

Thanks for posting these.

Noise levels at high ISO are fantastic.
The way detail is retained is... WOW!

Corner sharpness, and general quality, of the 14-24 is very -- very! -- good.
D3 + 14-24/2.8 is a mach made in heaven.

Thanks for your samples very impressive for noise but the lens maybe even more so.

Could you post a set at 14mm with different apertures in daylight at ISO200.

The FF performance of that lens seems excellent at 5.6, be interesting to see how it does from 2.8 to 16 as far as light fall off and corner sharpness.

Thanks for posting. This may help my "fix" for 5 minutes until I get one. I am waiting on my front porch and will fast until I receive mine, or until I get hungry. The high ISO looks amazing. I can hardly wait.

Thanks Again.

Koss,

Thanks for that. Another real world example that shows what an impressive camera the D3 is.

It starts to fall apart at around 12800 but that's at 12800, at 6400 it's very impressive, amazing stuff.

Opens up some interesting possability's for low light shooting.

Thank you very much for providing this night shot at all of the ISOs. Your first test and this as well were excellent in helping determine high ISO performance. As in your previous examples and those of others, there is tolerable noise in the midtones starting at ISO800, noticeable on the walls on the left side of the picture as well as on the smooth structure surfaces in the center. ISO1600 is similar to what I see on a D2H, although the higher ISOs hold up better.

I'm sure you're swamped with requests, but it would be very nice to see power of two ISOs starting at 200 so that we have a supreme reference image.

Anyway, we are all grateful for your efforts. I can't wait to get mine ... preordered but who knows when it will arrive.

Thanks,

Gints

Hi,

Thanks hollypapa for posting those.

Looks to me like ISO6400 with normal noise reduction is where I'm going to start my own tests at thanks to your tests.

ISO6400 without noise reduction looks a little harsh in the shadows (sky etc). It was really helpful to see these.

At 12800 and up ISOs there is a lot of very bright speckle noise in the NEF files when viewed in Lightroom, but which is signficantly reduced in the out of camera jpgs and also by NX.

The speckles are probably shot noise, and hence they are relatively easy to suppress with some clever non-linear signal processing.

Amazing files.
