Sally on a walk - lassie dog is pretty good (those colors makes it alot easier to take a picture of then a solid color). i may have added a second photo of just her face since she has a nice expression.

Jake at High Dam - i'm glad that when you named these, they were all dogs and not people. (me at a sign post, me at a tree, etc - little pet pieve, no pun intended) - anyway, the shot shows intrest and is well saturated. it would be nice if jake was a little closer to the camera. as close as that middle rock. since he's a black dog, he's just more or less a black spot to the side. that wall makes a good neutral background btw.

Jake - if you have photoshop - run an unsharp mask to help with the highlights (though it may just be my display). i'd also crop out the background behind him. just behind his fur and just above his ears.

Flower - this is actually a little too saturated. looks like it was done with spot. certain colors bleed past the boundries. this one isn't so bad (some of my tulips are terrible). i think this flower has enough yellow in it, that you can safley add some green folliage behind it. other then that, i'm not sure - i'm not sure what kind of flower that is actually, it kind of resembles a pansy...

High Dam - is actually very nice. i would add a polarizer for that. the greens would pop more as well as the blue. the dead tree next to it, needs a few leaves, but otherwise still adds to the pictures. this should make a great fall shot.

Dragons - the white spots are a little distracting, though i don't know why there's 2 unless it's supposed to be there. otherwise i see nothing wrong with them. or nothing that you can really add.

Bethany - i'm not all that great at people shots. but this looks fine. the background is neutral, the important part (her head), is cropped well. she even has that little sparkle in the eye.

Cottage at Coniston - this looks fine too. again a pol would help. i'd make a second photo making a panorama, showing where it is. one whole extra frame of the mountains, leading to the house. (unless of course there is nothing else beyond that).

Swanlake - swans are birds i havn't seen around my area (i guess they're to ritzy)... a few shots could make it even better. 1. try to get a picture with both of them and it's reflections. swans, for whatever reason, are graceful, and the gentle reflection will enforce this idea. 2. a front view, or a wake view (that little water pathway they make as they swim by).

hi simon

i really like your pics. especially the cottage. did you try to take a panoramic view. i think that in white and black it could be good.
I also like the color of the dragons.
Keep going, it's cool

Thanks for your comments. I did do a panoramic shot but it was disapointing due to thin mist covering the hills and it looked drab.

Thanks for your kind words.

I have posted a black & white picture if you want to look?

Simon,

Lovely picture of Bethany - your daughter?

As for the cottage at Conniston - any idea how much it is on the market for? OK, it needs some work, as an estate shark might say, but beggars can't be chosers nowadays in this housing bubble... I mean, housing market! :-)))

No. I used the natural light in the room and the internal flash turned down to -2. I always use the flash close up at least -1 or it seems to burn things out.

I took the picture of the dragons with the internal flash also. I used tin foil to deflect the light.

Hi Janek.

Bethany is my grandaughter.

The cottage is in a beautiful place. I think you would have to live without gas, electricity and maybe water supplies though but you would get plenty of peace. Squatting might be the answer?
