I searched, but did not find anything specific ..

1) Is there site where I can find reviews on Light Stands?

I'm trying to assemble a portable lighting system .. comprised of a couple of light stands. The one's I'm considering .. Impact 2212ABH an 8' - 4 section "air" system. and Impact LS8A, also an 8" - section "air" system. Both are priced at $34.95 .. so yes, I'm not looking to spending BIG BUCKS.

I want to use the Flash on my Sony A100 .. to wireless connect to (2) HVL-F56AM flashes (on the light stands).

My question .. whats the difference between the 2212ABH vs LS8A?

And a newbie question?

How does one attach a flash/strobe unit on a light stand?

Dunno, but the descriptions show a 1/4" thread on one and not on the other.

That is not necessarily accurate, in that both photos appear to show the black rubber thread protector in place, but you do likely want the 1/4" tread. Impact is the B&H house brand. The gear could be any brand, the two stands could even be different brands.

Studio lights normally use the 5/8 inch stud on top. Camera flash adapters sometimes use the 1/4 inch thread, or maybe an umbrella bracket (which fits the 5/8 stand stud and provides a 1/4" thread).

If you are wanting umbrellas too, then look at:

Not air cushioned, but very nice gear.

This plus two $10 Stroboframe 300 flash shoes

will put you in tall cotton.

I don’t think there is a difference, but you could email them to find out. I use these stands, but I’m not sure which model number.

Use an umbrella swivel mount, such as this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/298709-REG/Impact_3117_Umbrella_Bracket.html

If you want a better shoe mount, then you can replace the one that comes with umbrella mount bracket with one of these: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/52772-REG/Stroboframe_300_SHO_Flash_Mount_Adapter_.html

Thank you very much .. just what I was seeking regarding portable (or mobile) lighting systems ..

It was so obvious, that I didn't think of it .. sheesh.

Thanks .. I'm slowly rounding out what I need ...

Once I assemble the system ..

2- Impact LS8A w/Stroboframe 300-SHO
2- HVL-F56AM

What kind of case is recommended?

2- Impact LS8A w/Stroboframe 300-SHO
I suspect you want the $10 Stroboframe 300 (with no SHO). You dont want the bracket locating pin on the SHO. Just discard the unneeded bottom knobs on the 300, then they are the same, except for the bracket pin, which would just be in the way. I always buy the $10 version.

It could be both stands are identical, but only one mentions the 1/4 inch thread.

The 5/8 diameter is not "threaded", but is a smooth stud which many studio lights use. The 1/4" threads are on top of it.
