Camera Choice

I could use a little guidance on camera choice, I've done4 a little shopping around and still need help.

I need a point and shoot for less that $200, must use 2xAA, be fairly small, and image stabilisation is preferred but not a deal breaker.

I am completely sold on the Nikon L12 other than the flash recharge time, we do alot of indoor shots in very low light and 8 seconds between shots seems laughable to me.

The Canon's that used 2xaa are way too big in comparison, the fuji's have a rwal poor quality feel to them.

What it comes down to is that I have no idea what I want, and could use some direction.

The best selling camera right now on amazon is the A570 IS. It matches your criteria.

Canon A720IS... reasonably priced, 8MP, 6x Zoom, and I am with you, AA batteries are also one of my priorities for convenience and price.

Thanks for the input, I'll go have a look at the Canons again.

The 2xAA, is for convenience (can carry an extra set) and the main problem with my current camera is that the proprietary battery won't hold a charge....again, never again will i buy a proprietary battery if i have a choice.

It isn't the battery; it is the camera that does this. I had a Nikon P&S that lasted through barely an hours shooting. It had a proprietary battery, but also took a 2CR5 lithium battery, neither lasted long enough. My Fuji F31fd has a proprietary battery, but lasts for a couple of hundred shots, maybe more. My two Canon dSLR bodies use proprietary batteries (the same for both bodies), one of them will take over 600 shots before it needs recharging (fewer with IS lenses or if the flash is used a lot).

Look at the reviews for each model, some have much better battery life than others. And buy an extra battery so you can have one charging while the other is being used. Third party batteries are very inexpensive, much less expensive than using AAs.

While I respect your opinion and all, and I understand that some cameras last longer per change than others, after a couple years a battery loses its ability to hold a charge.

It's not the batteries' fault, but i like the AA's for ease of replacement.

So do AAs, and third party batteries cost the same price as a couple high quality AAs anyway. I think 2 batteries will outlive the camera itsel, anyway.

You mention poor quality feel of fuji, why is that ? Plastic VS metal case ? Because le me tell you that a plastic case is much more resistant and absorbs shocks better than metal ones. If you want poor quality try ricoh R5 and others.

You are being unrealistic.

Two AA batteries take up a certain amount of space, and that won't change. The cameras using AA's are the size they are is because they have to fit AA's inside. It's a take it or leave it.

Also bare in mind that AA batteries weight a certain amount and really compact cameras have to keep weight down.

Of the AA compacts I'd recommend I'd suggest the a Fuji E900 ( if you can still get one ) or a Canon A630, 640, 570 IS or 710 IS. The Canon's are a bit more consumer friendly but I regards the E900 as a better enthusiasts camera.

If you want smaller then it's proprietary batteries. The Fuji F30/31 or a Canon Ixus I'd suggest.
