FL-36 modification

Has anyone ever modified the FL-36 to work with an external power source? If so, how and did it decrease the cycle time of the flash? This is one great little flash but the cycle time is making me look for something different. I know it improves depending on the type of batteries you use but I would really like the option of an external power source and fast cycles.
