Simplify external flash

I found out how to make the cited site public. Should be accessable now.

Earl
With a slave trigger device (I use a Vivitar Wireless Triggering Unit)
you dont have to go into the menu, you dont have to be tethered to the
camera, and you can have the external flash at any distance from the
camera. I have a photo to show how simple and small the setup is. Go to:
http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/earld2?d&.flabel=fld1&.src=ph&start=1
try it, it is slick.

can you tell me how to paste into a
message on this forum? Paste is greyd out.
If Paste is grayed out, then there must be no text
in your clipboard. So whatever "copy" or "cut" you
thought your did, didn't happen.

Now for some on-topic stuff...

Where can we buy the slave trigger?

Does it work with "any" flash unit?

Are you triggering it using the built-in
flash of the 2020?

Does that work so long as you don't
select "red-eye-reduction" mode?

Sure it will work with any flash that will accept a flash-cord. It is triggered by the light from the built in flash, that how it synchronizes perfectly. If another flash was to go off before you tripped your shutter it would go off. The red-eye mode puts out a small pre-flash which probably would trigger it. The neat part of this system is that you dont have to change anything on the camera. Just as long as the cameras flash goes off, it will trigger. I put another pic on the Yahoo site which shows how you can light up a big room with great depth of field this way. The slave flash was aimed at the ceiling at 45 degrees.

Hello,

You seem to forget answering Roy F.'s most important question. Where can we get the little jewel???

Tony

Hey Tony; any CAMERA store worth the name will have flash and flash accesories. try RITZ and SAMMYS and 5th ST. Wolf CAMERA would have them. Try finding VIVITAR on the net. They are out there somewhere.

One more question, what is the brand of your flash? I visited Vivitar's web site and found the sensor cord that seems to be the one you have. But do they work with other brands of flash? I have a Sunpack 433AF. It has a mind of its own, it won't flash sometimes when I put it on manual settings. I'm not quite sure what its sensor is doing and where does it focus yet.

I can't find the item from Ritz Camera's web site. Have to call the local store after the holiday. Thanks again for the directions.

Earl mentioned in another thread that he was using a Vivitar 283.

(looks like the one in Earl's picture)

If the flash cord attaches to the slave trigger with a standard PC
connector, same as to the camera, then we are all set, right?

My old Minolta Auto-32 has what appears to be a Minolta proprietary
connector at the flash end, so I have to be very protective of
the special cord that came with the flash unit - treat it as if it
were made of that rare element, unobtainium! :) - or I could
get a hot shoe to PC cord adapter. The Auto-32 has a hot shoe
that is disabled by plugging in the cord.

Roy, RITZ has a bracket with hot-shoe and standard PC cord. If your flash has hot shoe that would work.
