18-200 looks sharp on my d80 C&C please

Looks very nice on my monitor. I have the 18-200 on my list of wants.

The 18 to 200 is much better than some people give it credit for.
It works fine on my D50...D80 and I bet it will also be fine on the D300

Just trying to learn and it's slow going!

Am i the only one that thinks it is odd that people try to show lens softness in very small picture? If it is visbile in such a small picture then chance are the 'softness' is due to poor focus, shake, too slow of a shutter or not choosing the correct aperture for the subject matter.

If I had a lens that showed it in a such a small resampled image then I'd take that joker back in an instant. If the 100% crop is soft in the edges then things are different but I still not so sure the easiest way to remedy it is and correction profile kinda like the DxO stuff.

you need to stain your deck better.

(that's me complimenting your lens... e.g. clarity) :-)

thanks for the comments. makes me feel a lot better about this lens. after reading a lot of reviews from people who received soft copies of this lens, kinda makes you feel a little paranoid.

I do know the best way to tell how sharp your lens is, is by looking at 100% crops. Just wanted to know what other people think about the sharpness/clarity/composition.

Didn't even realize how poorly my deck was stained until someone mentioned it! :) It really does show in the capture.

BTW, the picture was uploaded straight from the camera.. no PP done (would've cropped it a little if I had the time)

This looks good but I think its far too small to be a fair judge of sharpness.

I am actually considering this lens - since it would be great for shooting events. I just don't know about lowlight AF on the D80 with this lens. However, constantly changing lenses is a problem sometimes.

I am hoping to get a D3 this coming year, maybe with the better AF...
