FZ18 ordered again - huge price drop just like Thanksgiving black Friday morning

I had dropped one of the "too good to pass up" FZ18's in my shopping cart at amazon, ran out to a Ritz camera to check it out in person, got back home, put the kids to bed, and....DAMN....price is back up. Serves me right for hesitating to pull the trigger.

So, that being said, do I just get the FZ8 and save the $100? I was planning on that all along but got seduced by the low price on the FZ18, then having both in my hands at the shop, I was totally sold! Now I'm going to feel like I settled for something less. But, I guess, that's the price you pay.

Thoughts from the FZ8 crowd? THANKS!

I had the good fortune to come across this post early this morning. I have been trying to decide on something to replace my aged Olympus C-2100 UZI, and was waffling between the FZ18 and a FZ50. I had pretty much decided on the FZ50 for its superior image quality, but then Olympus dropped the price on the E-510, and I had started looking even more seriously at that.

Then I saw the absolutely crazy price on the FZ18 this morning, and I couldn't resist, expecially with the added incentive of a $30 credit for signing up for an Amazon Visa card. So...I've joined the FZ18 ranks (assuming Vann's honors the purchases at the $249 price), but, unless an FZ60 appears on the horizon, I'll probably end up also getting an E-510 in the near future to complement the FZ18, which at this price point will be my expendable small format carry around/travel camera.
 
Thanks OP but I think this deal is dead now. At Vanns it says 249.95 for black and silver but when I add one to the cart the price says 379.95, which I think is what they'd charge me. I was going to get in on this but I guess it's too late.
Will check back later to see if I'm wrong or not.

Yes, I suspect you would be charged for the higher price as that is what would make it into your shopping cart.

I just have this sneaking suspicion that someone at Vanns got their FZ8 and FZ18 cameras confused and those of us that ordered will hear the resolution of that mixup tomorrow. I hope I am wrong, though, and that they honor their listed price.

After I placed my order this a.m., I realized I hadn't seen a choice for black or silver.

I wrote back specifying the black FZ18. I received a response showing a time of 7:26 this evening (Vann's time zone?) verifying that my order was for the black model.

It looks like Vann's didn't make a mistake with the $249 listing :-)
 
Wow this is 1/2 the cheapest price I can find in the uK.

Just tried to order one from Amazon US site and they won't ship to a uk address bummer.

If I sent one of you guys in the us some money you could order me one and post it LOL.

I checked out the Vann's website and amazon yesterday a few minutes after your post and the price for the FZ18 was well over $300. Where did you see it for $250 ?
 
It was 249.95 at Vanns Sunday for a while and some people got them for that price. I was too late for it. Last night it was still listed for 249.95 there but when I put one into my cart the price said 379.95.

If the 249.95 price comes back I'll jump on one of them fast if I can.

I just put an order in for a FZ8 online at Circuit City for $236. Best price I've seen (although they only have the silver body, not the black). It's not quite the AMAZING deal on the FZ18 from yesterday, but I couldn't wait as I've got a trip next week and needed something now.

I think I'll be happy. Paid a few extra bucks for 2-day, so it should get here before Thanksgiving. Any tips for getting up and running with it? Is they manual helpful at all?
 
Some places have super sales like this right before the holidays, and in the long run I think their holiday business will improve for it. People are going to be going back to Vanns to look for the FZ18 price, and in the meantime may buy other things.

The Vann's Customer Service rep just told me the 249.99 price was due to computer error and was not an intentional sale price. In fact, he very openly said they "took about a $100 a pop hit" on the error.
