Awhile back, people had recommended buying the 2-year extended warranty from ecost.com. Its supposed to be the official Olympus "gold" warranty for about $65.00. I just went onto the ecost and Olympus web sites and the manufacturer's part no. is different (200605 on ecost vs. 200807 on Olympus). Anybody have up-to-date information?

Try this link... The numbers are the same.

Alas the price is not!

OK, this is bizarre. I went to the above link - the price is $169.99 for "service plan, plan 2, gold". Then I went to the following link (the one I found earlier) and the price for "C-series 2 year extended warranty" is $83.95.

If you read "what is covered" under both, it seems to be the same

Just for the heck of it, here's B&H's price on that same warranty: http://www03.bhphotovideo.com/default.sph/FrameWork.class?FNC=ProductActivator__Aproductlist_html___213501___OLEWG12___REG___CatID=0___SID=ED870555CA0

Just got off the phone with Olympus, they said the 200605 was OLD warranty and that the 200807 is the NEW one.

The price on the Olympus site is $83.95

I think it is for the C-series only. You probably cannot use it for the E-series...

It does read that way. But it would seem the E-100 is closer in lineage to the C-2100UZ than to the E-10/20.

But the B&H price for the more expensive Oly warranty is still not much above the $84 above.

For myself and my E-100, I'm going to see if I can use the letter some E-100 owners received to finagle a free extended warranty; worth a phone call, at least!

I thought we were talking about the C-Series.

200808 is for the E-series $209.95 on the Olympus site. I'm sure you can find it cheaper.

It looks like what they did was change the OLD warranty that covered ALL the Digital Cameras, and made a few NEW warranties.

This makes sense seeing that the an E-xxxx is a more expensive camera than a C-xxxx

Well, I asked the question originally because I have a c700, so the new one is the right one for me. Presumably, however, ecost and others will have it even cheaper soon (given that they were selling the other one for less than 1/2 of what Olympus was selling it for).

When I bought my 2100 at CompUSA they gave me a 2 year warranty for $30. Anyone else get this as well?

The funny thing is that you can get a high-priced 4MP D-40Z and use the cheapest 2-year warranty of all... I think the new D-series warranty is only listed at $55+ on Olympus website. Maybe folks should take into account warranty cost in making camera purchases...

I got the 2 year deal from compusa for my UZI yesterday too...I normally don't buy them with for only $30 I couldn't turn it down. Its supossed to cover dropping, water dammage, etc.

I did -- and why not?

But there is an assumption that there will still be a camera in stock then. Also it may be a "one use" policy.

OTOH -- an Oly warranty can continue to replace/fix parts of the camera after it is out of production.

Likely a good idea to have both.

It was $80 when it was offered to me, bought my Uzi in January '02
(or thereabouts)
I was offered the $30 deal too. But the salesman told me it was secret between the two of us. The one they usually sell is $79.95, which accordingly to him offers a bit more, but the $29.95 one is good enough.

Don't know too much about the CompUSA warranty anyway... If you press them, they may tell you more.

ecost has some strange added costs for the $65 200605 Gold.

$16.95 to ship you a piece of paper and an additional $5.95 to handle it for you. For a whopping $88. That's 36% of the price of the item just to get it to you.

I bought a 3 yr. policy with CompUSA for $49. I returned the camera after four months because of problem and they replaced it without any hassle. The policy is only for a specific camera and not for the replacement.
