Hmm.. How to start... Maybe I should tell something about my past?

I have been Canon user since I got my first SLR, FTb. It was not my first camera tho. That honor goes to some "brownie"-type camera. I dont' think it was a actual Brownie, but a copy of it. Later my FTb got a big brother, F-1. The FTb did give me long and prosperous service, but I sadly lost F-1 in an accident involving winter, ice and lots of salt water... Even when the EOS-series came, I didn't see any reason to upgrade. But then in mid-nineties I had a weak moment and sold all my SLR-stuff. Even then Canon got a hold of me as I got myself the original IXUS (ELPH) (the APS-camera, not digital).

Fast forward to april 2004. I finally decided it was time to move into digital photography and got myself a digital camera. Ofcourse it was a Canon. (Did you really think that I would break my addiction?) So I got Pro1. I think Pro1 is the best non-dlsr camera Canon has made to date. I was happy with it untill I started to feel it was hampering me and I was sometimes frustrated with it. Clearly it was time to move up.

So why I did get Oly E-510 and not Canon 400D or 30D? Several reasons. When I compared 400D to my Pro1 I felt that Pro1 was better camera. Maybe Canon dumbed the 400D down too much? And 30D? It just didn't feel right. But when I got E-510 to my hands I felt like I had come home. Also it's specs were just right what I wanted and oly's range of exelent lenses played its part too. Granted, Canon has much larger selection of lenses, but if you look closer at them, there are only few lenses that you really want to have.

So in early August I got myself Oly E-510 twin zoom kit and FL-36. Frustrations gone. Smiling again. Making mistakes and learning from them.

What next.... I would love to have tilt/shift-lens. For me it looks like tilt/shift-lens and live view would be match made in heaven. There are not much options tho. Olympus has Zuiko Shift 24mm f/3.5 OM-lens but finding one is all but impossible I think. Hartblei 35mm Super-Rotator is more realistic option. Will Oly make tilt/shift for Four-thirds? I can only hope they will.

What about E-3 then? I will probably get it in some point of future, but I am not in hurry as I have good enough camera for now. :)

I hope I didn't bore you to death and I want to apologize if my grammar is not up to usual standards. Also any typos are unintentional. :)

I will post some images in next post.

Now this is a bit strange pic. I was expecting people to be fuzzy, but what I got is kind of double exposure efect. Only reason I can think of is fluoresent lights as they flicker they create kind of strobe efect?

Next two pics are taken in different times. First 1.30 PM and second next day 11.07 AM. Lightning is very different.

Next pic was taken with my Pro1. Even if this would have been only pic I took with it, it would have been worth it. If I can take one nearly as good pic with my E-510 I will be satisfied.

  1. 1- does not do much for me
  2. 2- less contrast and not bad
The rest are very well done. The man in front of the train is excellent, great composition and exposure.

I have had the e510 for about 5 months the more I get used to it the more it impresses me.

You have the eye!!

And I can see what you find nice of your Pro1.

Thanks for sharing!

I am looking forward to seeing more of your photos in the future.

I also was a long-time Canon user. I moved up from a F-1n system to Hasselblad, but always loved that 50mm f1.2. I have used a lot of cameras in my life and currently use an E-1 (E-3 is on order and should be in this Wednesday). The E-1 and Zuiko lenses give me that same type of "fluidity" of colors that me Hassys still give me.

Most of that can be done now with post processing, which is why tilt/shift lenses aren't seen too much in digital.

Don't ask me how to do it, I'm not a photoshop pro, but it can be done.

The OM Zuiko 24 is not only rare, it's hideously expensive when you do find it.

And you therefore really deserve a camera with more flexibility, an SLR, you owe to yourself! You've such a great "eye" for "eye-catching" compositions.

Keep on shooting! Cheers! :D

Do you ever wanna read signatures over and over again???

Thank you. I am glad that you did like them.

I too had a Canon Ftb for years. Loved that camera; I shot nothing but the 35mm and 200mm EF lenses.

I like all your images. The one of the guy by the train (and people in the station) really shows the value of IS, I think.

I never had that particular lens as for some reason I never had New FD lenses. My personal favorites were FD 24mm f2.8 and 50mm f1.4.

Yes, you can do shift with post processing, but I prefer to do it optically. You can simulate some efects of tilt in pp, but you can't do actual tilting of focal plane with pp.
Don't ask me how to do it, I'm not a photoshop pro, but it can be done.
Shift yes, tilt no.
The OM Zuiko 24 is not only rare, it's hideously expensive when you

I know that, but I still would love to have one. :)
Realisticly, I probably will get Hartblei at some point.

Hmm... I didn't know FTb could use EF-lenses? Or did you mean FD-lenses? ;)

Thank you. I did use handrail for support in that station pic.

The man in front of the train is really nice, the station picture is
interesting with the effect of the motion blur and the dock picture
is sharp.
Thanks. It was my intention to blur people, but what I did got was that kind of weird double exposure efect. But even if the end result was not what I intended, it turned out to pretty nice pic.
