CANON servicesoftware by accident not deleted from 40D

I don't read German unfortunately - sounds like a diagnostic firmware? Pretty cool to be able to have a glimpse at how Canon service our toys.

Not only that. If somebody could dump this software to a Flash-Card, it could possibly open up completely new doors to 40D owners.

Imagine you could switch on options which are already builtin but just limited by software ...?

not really thinking of that - simply being able to software adjust AF (possibly), or remove hot pixels even would be a bonus.

I'd say that'll be pretty unlikely. While the camera already has built-in ability to load new firmware, there's no ability to dump the firmware to a CF card. Usual method of getting a dump of the firmware requires physical electrical connection to the board (JTAG connector if available).

Wow, imagine the EOS 1Ds and the EOS 40D shares the same microprocessor which is 'turned" off on the 40D but you can switch it on so that it is a 12MP digital camera!

Dream On!

or even if not that since i'm not sure they turned off an for the 40D (maybe microfocus adjust?) it might have the software to carry out detailed lens calibrations?

Not true.

A710 software was dumped completey without any physical connection to the board, not even to the camera. They simply used a tiny lamp in front of the camera (timer-LED or so) to read out the software.

Something similar could be done with any camery, if you only manage to place something bootable on the flashcard to gain control over the hardware. Thats what they (CHDK) did with the A-series and the G-series cameras.
